In this, the largest deal of its kind, Exult will create and operate a global HR services organisation for BP Amoco. It will use the latest web-enabled technologies and processes to transform the ways in which human resources services are made available to employees and management.

"Through Exult's web-enablement of service delivery and its implementation of standardised HR services, we are gaining an holistic, practical and truly global HR services delivery solution that I firmly believe will allow us to usher in a new era of HR excellence," said Nick Starritt, BP Amoco's group vice president.

An important feature of the services delivery model that Exult will be providing to BP Amoco is called "myHR," a self-service web portal which enables employees to manage, in Exult's words, "their daily work, employment related experiences and career opportunities."

"The BP Amoco/Exult contract signals the emergence of a truly comprehensive HR BPO model, not only in the breadth of services offered, but also in that Exult is the first service provider to tackle the global HR marketplace," observed Cynthia Doyle, senior analyst for market research firm IDC.

"Exult is partnering to provide certain HR services in the BP Amoco deal, a good example that a new player can win a comprehensive global contract and partner with 'best-in-class' providers for the full scope of services."

Over $12 billion will be spent on integrated HR business process management services delivery by 2003, according to market research firm GartnerGroup/DataQuest. The compound growth rate over 1998 figures is 88 per cent.
