Microsoft
Corporation released Internet
Explorer 4.0 for the Windows 3.1 and Windows NT 3.51 operating systems.
The software includes the Outlook Express e-mail client which features HTML
mail for easy communication via the World Wide Web. The new releases add
significantly
to the browser's multiplatform support, joining existing versions for Windows
95, NT, and Macintosh. The UNIX version of Internet Explorer 4.0 is in
beta.
Yusuf Mehdi, director of marketing in the application and Internet client
group
at Microsoft, said: "With unique features such as the acclaimed Explorer Bars,
standards-based Dynamic HTML, Active Channel content and Security
Zones, Internet Explorer 4.0 is a great upgrade for anyone using Windows
3.1."

Microsoft advises corporate administrators to begin evaluating Internet
Explorer 4.0 for Windows 3.1 to ensure that it is fully compatible with
existing
intranet solutions. The vendor says that its Internet Explorer Administration
Kit for Windows 3.1--which will enable administrators to customize, deploy
and maintain Internet Explorer 4.0 throughout their organization--will be
available "within the next 30 to 60 days."
