Hi
I just bought a used laptop, ( I never had one before ) - and the battery hold just 1 hr after a full charge. Can I say that this is a dead battery ? Should I change it ?
Your battery will last longer depending on why you do with it. Everything has an overhead DVD playing wifi connection. Games playing all takes it toll.
If you are just doing standard excel and it only last an hour I would suspect that although it's a new laptop to you it's actually a second hand laptop and the battery will need replacing for one that holds a full charge.
Otherwise of your really brave wire up something that will drain every single bit out of it and then fully charge it again. This may help.
It depends what you are doing on the laptop (i.e. is the fan running, lots of disk access etc.) and what sort of processor and peripherals it has. Older laptops which don't have a mobile processor can run down very quickly. One of my laptops is very old and never held the charge for more than about an hour.
Yes laptop batteries do loose their ability over time.
Typically Laptop batteries do last 4 - 5 hours depending on the use.
However, there are some things you can do to make it last longer without buying a new one..
Use a network cable instead of WiFi if possible.
Bring the brightness down on the screen if possible.
Do not run more programs than necessary
Close programs running in the background and in startup that are not needed
Take disc out of the CD tray if you are not using.
It all depends on age of the battery and the make of the laptop. If the owner took the proper precautions to extend the batteries life the battery should last at least 2 hours on a full charge. You might want to look in too buying a new battery. Online websites are going to give you the best deal so make sure you shop around. Laptop battery time depends on usage.
Heavy usage means fast usage of battery (like watching a movie etc)
Laptops batteries lose their ability to store charge over time.
Battery timing depends on the manufacturer first of all (dell, acer etc)
Proper precaution using the batteries should be used to make their life longer...
1. Never OverCharge the batteries.. it means if battery is charged, the plug out the power. otherwise battery will deteriorate slowly.
2."Never Ever" put the AC adaptor plug in a sparking socket, it will deteriorate your battery in a matter of 2 -3 months to total time of 2 or 3 minutes.
BTW if you are not satisfied with 1 hour timing, buy a new one.
