I will be starting at a center Dec. 1, and already have 6 months experience in other centers. The starting pay is $7 hr (which sucks, but is made better by the fact that I will pay next to nothing to take my 2 kids with me!), so I enrolled in college to get my child development associates credential in hopes of making more money in another year or so. I know min. wage is going up to $7.25 in July, so does anyone have an idea how much higher my pay could go after that with my cda?
unfortunately, daycare centers are not known for paying well. a cda may get you a bit more, but not much. the good thing is that you'll be more credentialed which will look good if you want to move up to assistant director and then director. so a cda or an aa, along with experience will get you a career, where as only experience will get you 25 cents more an hour. I think they kept your hourly at $7 because you had two children which means they loose a great amount of income by not being able to sell those spots. To try to see what your true hourly rate might be....add the amounts of the spots that the public would pay, discount the fees that you pay and take that number and divide by the number of hours whether it is based on weekly or monthly rates.
