Most New Yorkers speak with an Eastern Dialect. Most people in Indiana (excluding parts of the Southern Indiana) speak with no accent at all. I live in Indianapolis, and no one I know speaks with an accent.
Honestly? It's a weird state. I moved here from New Jersey...
Some people have really heavy country accents, and others don't seem to have any accent. Parts of the state is country and just cornfields, and other parts are REALLY city. I live just outside of Indianapolis, and there's SO much traffic here! Definitely NOT what I thought this state would be like!
PS- New Yorkers don't talk funny.. just different. I like their accents!
I moved to Indiana from Massachusetts. I got so sick of the locals asking me if I'm from Australia that I make a conscious effort to speak like them.
I have noticed that people from the northern part of the state have a bit of a Chicago accent (they drink melk, not milk). People from the southern part of the state have a bit of a southern/Kentucky/Tennessee accent (they say y'all). cable television:: indiana.customercare@mybrighthouse.com 317-632-2288 Terre Haute Google does not endorse, and expressly disclaims liability for any product, http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/198556.htmlHOME | Worldwide Motorbike sales figures:: I was not able to locate forecasts for US sales of ATV & motorbikes. 2730 4850 21704 29284 22145 32.24% Indiana 1673 4030 18239 24241 18730 29.42% Iowa http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/141069.htmlHOME |
People from the central part of the state have the typical midwestern accent.
New Yorkers have a very distinct accent, as do New Englanders. So to him it is a totally new and foreign accent.
You have got to be kidding? We all speak French in Indiana.
It depends on what part of the state you're from.I have family in Muncie and Indianapolis and they definitely have an accent.I on the other hand live in northwest Indiana close to Chicago and we do not have accents up here.
Not really accents, as much as a dialect.
If you have 1 person from the northern part of the state, they will sound different compared to a person from the southern part of the state.
I have a friend from "up north" and even though I live in central Indiana, he says I have a "southern accent". I don't think I do.
He is probably just home sick! I haven't heard you talk, but from the way you typed above I could understand why he thinks you talk funny. Anyways, it depends. I had a social studies teacher who was from Indiana, like me and he talked with a southern accent because he was from Southern Indiana. It does sound like you guys talk with an accent to us because we are not used to hearing people talk like that. You probably think he sounds a little funny too though.
P.S. it is spelled Indiana
I don't think we talk funny but of course I live here in Indiana, but I have family in other states that say we do I'm sure if he's from here that he might think you all talk differently than usLOL
Yeah I have a buddy from Ft. Wayne, IN and he talks with a different tone.
