Toms Hardware Forums:: (03/15/2008) i have a very good pc cant run crysis help (02/01/2008) what an interesting find. (08/14/2005) FA: Mappy marquee, new, very low price, ends today http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/General/relative-subject-66438.htmHOME | ok, so i have always been a casual soccer fan that has followed national team competition. world cups, okympics, euro all of that. but now i have caught the bug of club soccer. i have recently been catching fa cup games at the local pub here in my home town. basically following players from the national teams i like to watch to their respective clubs. now im a little confused on exactly how this whole thing is layed out. i have an idea of how the different teams enter the fa cup i think, but could benefit from another explanation. ok, who decides who played who? for example, i watch man united and everton play tonight. are those clubs just playing games for the fa cup? because i was on another website the barclay's premiere league website and it was showing teams participating in that laegues season too. basically i don't understand how club teams participate in the fa cup and if they are playing that simultaniously to their own smaller league seasons. and is the fa cup just a tournament? or is it several game season then a later tournament based on a win loss record? just trying to figure out where teams like arsenal and man united fall into the fa cup and their own premiere league. and while on premierleague.com i saw their are wins and losses being tracked. are they for a barclay premiership season or the fa cup? and since arsenal lost in the fa cup is their season over? so confused. im used to structures like world cup and euro 2004 so i want to understand this more. help a green football fan. thanks!
Fixture refers to the date and time a game will be played. The Fixture List is the list of a team's matches for the rest of the season.
Loan deals are made between the clubs involved. In the example you mentioned Crespo is on a season long loan to Milan. The terms of loan agreements are made by the clubs, these will include the length of a loan, what proportion of the players wages will be paid by each club, whether the player can play against his original club should they face each other and the loan may also include a one-off fee. In this case it is reported that Chelsea are actually paying the vast majority of Crespo's reported £90,000 per week wages. At the end of the season Crespo will revert to being a Chelsea player, and so it will be up to him and the club what happens to him.
that is really interesting how that works out since ac millan seems to be doing well with crespo, especially after he scored the winner against man utd :( why couldn't he cut it in epl?
There are lots of reasons why a player might not "cut it" with a specific team, some of which have already been mentioned. Some more: a depth of players at that position who have already proven themselves, differences with the manager/coach, not fitting into the team's system of play or gelling with teammates...the list could go on and on. No matter what the reason, the loan is good for him. He's playing (and playing well) while on loan. While any player can improve just by training with a good team, nothing beats match experience. Especially for confidence.
ITS THE OTHER WAY AROUND, CRESPO HAS BEEN LOANED TO AC MILAN FROM CHELSEA,AND VERON IS ON LOAN AT INTER MILAN FROM CHELSEA,BOTH OF THESE GUYS DIDNT CUT IT ,IN THE EPL SO CHELSEA LOANED THEM OUT TO GAIN VALUABLE PLAYING EXPERIENCE,NEXT SEASON ,MY GUESS IS THAT THEY WILL BOTH SIGN PERMANENTLY WITH THEIR NEW TEAMS,AS THEY HAVE BOTH DONE WELL IN ITALY

ok. so the FA cup is a KO tourney that runs along side the 4 main football leagues regular seasons and wins and losses in the fa cup don't effect say man united's premiership league record. so how does the champions league work because that is teams from all over europe correct? also, can someone explain to me how players go on loan. like i noticed that hernan crespo is on loan to chelsea from ac millan. how does that work and who makes those arrangements ebcause arent both teams in action right now? thanks alot for all the help everyone!!!
I shall try my best.
The UEFA Champions League is a 32 team competition (not including the qualifying rounds) for Europe's top teams. Teams qualify based on finishing high in their own domestic leagues in the previous season. Different leagues qualify different numbers of teams based on their record in European competiton. For example, England, Spain, and Italy enter 4 teams in each.
The first part of the competition (the fall) is a group stage. The 32 teams are divided into 8 groups. They play on a league basis (home and away), the top 2 make the round of 16.
In the winter/spring, the 16 teams play on a knockout basis. The teams play two legged ties (one game each at home), whichever team scores the most total goals advances. If they are tied on aggregate, the team scoring the most goals away advances. If that is also equal (i.e. both games end in identical scores), then they play a 30 minute overtime immediately after the second game. If still tied, they go to a penalty shootout.
The eighthfinals, quarterfinals, and semifinals are over two legs. The final is a single game at a predetermined site.
Performance in this competition is also separate from the league. A team can win the Champions League and at the same time finish last in its domestic league (though that's highly unlikely).
BTW Fedwood there are onlt 4 proper leagues in England. Below division 2 is the conference. I think this...
There are 5 superior divisons in England
there is the English Premier League - top league
Coca Cola Championship - 2nd league
1st division -3rd league
2nd division - 4th league
3rd division - 5th league
they play their seasons normally
every single team enters the FA Cup which is a knockout tournament
so it eventually comes down to 2 teams and then a winner is found
oh ok. i understand just about everything now. one more question. hahaha. ok, so the fa cup is like the big fa trophy and teams outside of england can compete? is the fa vase just a competition for smaller teams and leagues? thanks so much for all the help. this board is great.
F.A. Cup. is for all senior clubs (within reason) who play in the National League System. It starts with the extra prelimanary round in August.
F.A. Trophy. is for clubs in the Conference (National, North + South), Southern (Prem, East + West), Isthmian (Prem + Division 1) and the Northern Premier (Prem + Division 1). Levels 1-4 of the non-league system.
F.A Vase. is for the clubs who play in the feeder leagues (Hellenic, United Counties, etc) below level 4 of the non-league System.

ok that makes sense. and so the champions league, fa cup and regular club season are all played simultaniously?
2 more questions and i think i'm set.
1)how does loaning players work? i mentioned this breifly above. crespo is on loan to chelsea from ac millan right? who decides taht and how does it work because isn't ac millan in action right now?
A loan is like a transfer, except that the loaning team retains the player's rights. Sometimes players are loaned to gain experience, sometimes to get rid of them, sometimes because the team has no place for them now but they are in future plans.
2)the term "fixture" i see on teams websites regarding schedules confuses me. can someone explain exactly what it means in regards to teams playing. is it just basically a term for the next scheduled game? that is what it seems but i don't want to be missing something.
i must say all this confusion is worth it because these club matches are really great. i loved national competition but these are really fun to watch. thanks for all the help everyone. its nice to be on a board where you don't get hated on for being a newbie.
Fixture = scheduled game (it's a British term). Same as "result" is the same as "final".
A team can win the Champions League and at the same time finish last in its domestic league (though that's highly unlikely).
It is most certainly possible though. I can't remember if it was Borussia Dortmund or Leverkusen from a few years back who openly conceded their CL games in order to stave off relegation.

Now explain the UEFA Cup.... ;) and I think your day can be described as fully productive

The FA Cup is for English teams only (counting teams like Cardiff, which is actually in Wales but plays in the English system). The FA Vase is for teams in lower divisions. There are a couple others for lower league clubs as well.

im confused about the carling cup. is that the trophy for the epl? because i thought man u was still in the running for a shot at the title.
The FA Cup is a side competition, just like the Champions League, to normal domestic league football.
The FA Cup is an exceptionally long competition which features a number of preliminary rounds before round 1 where the football league teams enter. Then in round 3 the Premiership and Coca-Cola championship teams enter.
If you lose in the FA Cup, you are out, it is a straight knockout but it has no impact on the league.
BTW Fedwood there are onlt 4 proper leagues in England. Below division 2 is the conference.
There are a lot more than 4 proper leagues in England. A strange term to use there.
Also there are four round between the preliminary rounds and the 1st round.
