  • I read about the latest build and downloaded it and it's not the new build. It's the same one that was there before. Still get the "no administrator error". I checked properties of the download and the file version is 2.0.212.2918 which is definitely not the 238 version posted in the Announcements. I followed the link and the above is what I got. Where have they put the new build?

    I agree. I see the logging has changed, but I see no place to limit log size or disable logging. Has Agnitum really dropped the ball on this one? After so many huge log complaints, you'd think they would have addressed this issue. Perhaps they have, but it doesn't say so in the log of what was changed in the update.

    Just to clarify...the dummy account had a password but my own administrator account did not have one. I'm glad I persisted too.

    I was using the computer as I originally set it up with just the owner as administrator...no password used at all. I'm glad I decided to gave it another try. Was going to give up and look for another program.

    I just have time for a few quick comments on this one. I am not sure this will work, but if you have problems immediately after or during installation, I recommend following the instructions in the thread linked below. If Outpost is not completely installed, you may be unable to follow the first few steps and use the Outpost Uninstall routine. However, all of the rest of the steps for registry cleaning and file system cleaning still apply. Please be adviced that jv16 Power Tools is no longer FREE, but there is a TRIAL and I believe it is 30 days. This application has worked very well for me and is worth the $30, at least in my case.

    If that does not work for you, then it may be some incompatibility with your system configuration and I am unsure what to do in that case. I have suffered the same situation with another application that costs about three times as much as Outpost, so I understand your frustration. I hope that it works out.

    One other alternative that can be tried before uninstalling and installing may be to install over the top of the current installation. TAG97, if I remember correctly, and I may not, I got that same error ONE time and installing over the top fixed the problem. If it does not work, use the instructions linked in this post.

    As for the logging, there have been multiple requests from the Beta Testers and, as you know, forum members to allow the ability to activate or deactivate one or all of the logs. The only feedback that I can give is that I recall a message where Mikhail seemed to note that because of the way the logging system was integrated with Outpost, the change was not so simple. So in my opinion, I would suspect that such a change may not occur until another major release, like 2.1 for example. Be advised, I am only speculating here. Depending on how the logging system was integrated with Outpost, I have no idea how long or if such a change is possible. I know that is not good news. But unfortunately, it is the only news that I have at the moment. I will track this issue and offer updates as I receive them. Also, I have written a note reminding Agnitum that some users take this issue very seriously. That is all that I can do at the moment. I believe the only change made in this update were some modifications to speed logging and also limit unnecessary logging. These changes may help on systems with minimal resources or systems like servers that generate a lot of traffic. I guess we will see.

  • Just downloaded it granny and it is definetly the right version. You may want to try again but make sure you delete the previous DL first.

  • I'm frustrated...Purchased Outpost Pro 2 several weeks ago and installed it (I'm running on Windows 98 SE). Then my computer wouldn't shut down in the normal manner - it shut down and immediately rebooted. Tech support said they were aware of the problem and would correct it. I was really happy to get the update message this morning and promptly did the update.

    However, the problem persists...the computer will still not properly shut down.......what am I doing wrong??

    I don't know if I mentioned it or not in my prior posts regarding the installation problem. I'm running Windows XP Home, original version clean install (not factory installed) on a Dell Dimension 8100 with all patches and fixes.

    I was able to install Version 1.0 Pro with no problems. However, when I tried to install the new version over the old one that didn't work either. Hope you can duplicate the problem so that no one else has to be so frustrated as I was.


  • when i downloaded and installed the full outpost firewall from there site it said the version was 2.0.239 but when i updates my firewall online via agnitum update it showed 2.0.238.3121(290). isnt 239 a later built then 238.I wonder why that happened and even after repeated updating its not updating to 239 online via automatic updates.funny....

  • Just to give you the results of my playing around I was unable to duplicate your problem on my laptop. I tried installing OP from a admin account that was not password protected (guess I should not be surprised since it is supposed to be fixed). The only other thing may try an older version this evening when I get home. If I do I will post the results.

    i got the full version from agnitum website of the outpost pro right now.Then i uninstalled my old agnitum and restarted it. After restarting i installed agnitum again (the new one which i had downloaded) and again rebooted. After installing it the version that it says in the about is 2.0.239.3121(290). Then i checked for the automatic update and it said newer version is available of size 2091 kb. i downloaded that update and installed it and now the version of outpost changed to 2.0.238.3121(290).So i was wondering isnt 239 supposed to be an update to 238.Is it a bug or something in the oupost that is available on there website which says 2.0.239.3121(290) after installation...

  • Well, I gave it one more for the "gipper" so to speak. Yeah!!!!! It finally got installed.

    I had a dummy account I set up for backup just in case I was unable to access my account and it was also an adiministrator, but it had a password. I had also tried to install Version 2.0 when it first came out in early June using this account and it didn't work.

    I tried again using the dummy account and was able to do the install. Maybe the fact that there were two Administrator accounts and one password protected and the other one wasn't had something to do with the installation problem I was having this go-round.

    Anyway, finally got the program installed. I've removed the old dummy account too. Hopefully this will resolve everything. Whew!!!!!

    Went to Sheilds UP and am in Stealth all around..

  • Well I also downloaded Outpost v2.238 to check the shutoff problrms on Windows ME and didn't get that far.:( I was unable to connect to the internet. I exit and shutdown Outpost and had the same problem.
    I then uninstalled Outpost and the problem disappeared. I tried reinstalling and the same problem reappeared. The Error message stated 'E001.3: Failed To Bind To Tap Driver.Error:1"

  • It still shows 2.0.212.2918 as the file version in the properties. I've had to totally remove everything relating to Agnitum and outpost. Lots of registry stuff. Tried installing in safe mode and it will not install.

    I right clicked on the downloaded file for properties and file version...the above is what shows up. Agnitum was supposedly working on a fix for the Administrator rights problem and it was to be in the release that just came out.


  • Actually I now can confirm what manly is saying is true (see screenshot). I also get told there is a newer version available if I run the update however I have not downloaded it.

    Congratulations! I'm glad you persisted. After hearing your experience I am going to create a dummy admin account with no password protection to see if I can duplicate your problem. :)
