Hi All,
I recently did a clean install of v.2.0. I created the rules for Shareaza as described by David in these forums and forwarded the ports in my router as per Shareaza's requirement to share my files.
If I put my computer in the DMZ zone of my router to fully test the firewall at GRC or PC Flank, I get fully stealth ports. If I start Shareaza and do the tests, my port 6346 is open. Same thing happens when I use Kazaalite (port 1214), stealth if Kazaalite is closed and open if Kazaalite is running. I had done these tests with version 1 of Outpost, and even with the programs running the ports were always stealth. This is on my Windows XP home edition.
I aslo have another system with Windows 2000 Pro and using the beta version of Kav Anti-Hacker 1.5 and when I do the above tests all ports are stealth.
My question is, is this normal in Outpost? (although I seriously doubt it) and what can I do or try. I already tried uninstalling it, cleaned up my registry with JV16 Powertools and reinstall, all with the same results. Are there rules that I should create in the Global Rules area. Thanks for all the help. Economy Round Opening Ports:: Cowl vents - fine workmanship, highly polished finish, and powder coated interior are a few of the outstanding features of these high quality cowl vents http://www.e-marine-inc.com/products/hardware/sport_round.htmlHOME |
Hi chrisclu,
Thanks for the reply, and everything you said makes sense. I was just wondering that's all. Again, Thanks.
I'm surprised only 1214 was open.Without a P2P program runnig you are completely stealth which is as it should be. When you start P2P you are turning your computer into a server and should expect at least one port to be open. :D:D Cool Solutions: Opening Ports for NBO:: What are the ports you need to have open for NBO and why? Why would you try to do a port scan when you have P2P program running? When you forward the port/ports from the router, you in essense, open them as the router would have dropped packets had they not been allowed by forwarding.
I'm not saying that you should use Shareza or Kazaa or any other P2P, just don't expect to do a port scan while they're running and come out stealth.
Regards,
Chris
