Hello timnicebutdim, Welcome to the Forum :)
Check your settings in OutPost GUI>Options>General> to make sure it is set to Normal for Startup. Also if you have a start up monitor program please check it to make sure that OutPost is not being blocked from starting at reboot. I restarted my computer and outpost is back in the system tray ( along with some other programs that normally display in the system tray ).
Is this a normal error that sometimes occurs in xp?
Should i worry about this or just ignore it?
Outpost is set to normal on startup.
I don't have a start up monitor program ( maybe i should get one? ).
I also noticed that some of the other programs that normally show in the system tray ( my graphics card driver for example ) is not showing either. I will restart my computer and see if this problem continues.
Please note ( it seems that outpost is running and working ok because i get pop up messages from outpost asking about connections , ect - i only set it up a couple days ago and its still in rules mode ).
I did also get some message saying that something had changed from the firewall ( something from outpost ) i just execpted the change... perhaps this has something to do with it?

Hi,
Also make sure that in the options - general section that the box is ticked for 'mimimise main window on close' else it will stop & go away when you shut the gui window & will need to be re-started from the start menu. thats just the interface bit tho, outpost in XP runs in the background as a system service, so protects even if the gui is not showing in the tray, that icon just makes it a bit easier to get to the gui & other settings

I saw something on this very subject the other day, hang on

It's possible it occurs after killing some of the unwanted services which I do as per

The stuff with the missing icons still appears to be running when you look in Task Manager or TDS3, just the icons aren't in the tray where they usually reside.
In XP are you hiding inactive icons via the Properties of the Start Menu and Taskbar.
Doing so keeps the taskbar notification area from displaying unused icons.
