how much is increase..... it is 42 minus 4 which 38 metres
so now divide 38 by 4 = 9.5
SO basically starting length of 4 metres has incresed 9.5 times to become 42 metres.

so percentage increase is 9.5 multiply 100 = 950 % increase.
Answer is 950 % increase.
Perform a simple ratio problem like:
42 metres x
------------- = ------
4 metres 100
Cross multiple the equation to solve
4 metres(x) = 4200 metres
Divide both sides of the equation by 4 metres to solve for x
x=1050
This will be total percent so to get percent increase subtract the original percent (100) from x
1050 - 100 = 950 % increase.
This shouldn't be to hard.
First you divide 42 by 4 and you get 10.5.
Watch out some people just multiply 10.5 with 100 and say it increased by 1'050 %
If 4 increased to 8 it has had a 100% increase.
So is 4 increased 950% increase.
Also don't say it increased 10.5 fold, as they want it in percentage.

percentage increase means by how many percent it has increased yup, from 4m to 42m in this case
so get the difference betwn 42 and 4 (42-4 =38)
this means that it has increased by 38 metres yup
but you wanna find percentage increase
which is
( increase / original ) x 100 = percentage increase
so (38 divided by 4) x 100 = 950%
(p.s. why divide by original? because it's the increase relative to the original)
hence the percentage increase is 950% ((:

(42-4)/4 = 38/4
=9.5
Multiply by 100 to convert to percent.
9.5 * 100% = 950%
