i've been using my xbmc on a small 14" tv in 4:3 aspect. i just bought a nice new hitachi 16:9 tv. maybe because the screen is bigger and better i can see this now or maybe i have a setting wrong. every now and then teh screen goes a few shades lighter and then darker. this happens a lot with dvds being played back in avi format and dvd video (thanks xbmc team for this feature). when i played back across the network last night the fan/dvd drive slowed down (whichever causes the most noise) and the problem vanished. is this just some sort of interference from the motors? i'll try moving it from under thetv. i've used the sept 9 and 26 builds and the problem still persists...
since this is the 1st i hear like this, probably hardware related
traced the problem. it is the tv, some fault which is getting worse by the day, time to return it, not even a week old!
i put the auto brightness and contrast feature on and it has mostly cleared the problem up. i'll try the original cable as well, at the monment i am using that box with all the various video outputs and optical out etc. a cheapo thing off ebay. possibly the weakest link in the system!
now it's watchable.
this sounds like it could also be a macrovision encription problem.
if you have a dvd playing through a vcr, you can run into problems with their security that does exactly what you are talking about.
before you return the tv, try to hook it directly to the tv (without any other equipment between) and see if this helps.
in the past i used a video stabilizer (made by optec, about $40 canadian) and it worked for me... but did result in a drop in video quality.
good luck and i hope that it can be fixed!
