after going through so many examples one thing which i dont understand is, the look and feel of the buttons added in the toolbar and the buttons added in the body of a panel differs????

Which do you want to achieve? Having the buttons in the toolbar look the same as the buttons on the page, or the other way around?

Either way, all of the buttons are styled using CSS, so you can set them do whatever you want them to be with your own classes.
There is a config property called cls for each button that controls which CSS class styles the element. What if you set the css class for the object to be the same as the type of button you want? Not sure it will do everything, but may be a good place to start.
