Polish bird flu not a threat to people, say officials
2007-12-03, 15:15
Meat producers in the region of Warmia and Mazury are recalling from stores the poultry which may be infected with the H5N1 bird flu virus.
An estimated number of seven thousand birds from turkey farms where the disease was discovered are still in stores across the region. Authorities assure that there is no danger to humans, as this particular strain of bird flu must first mutate before it starts to pose threat to people. portland imc - 2008.08.01 - WILL THE BIRD FLU BE RELEASED IN BEIJING?:: Airport—a clue that health officials are not just anticipating a flu pandemic homeless and poor people last year, which prosecutors say involved an untried http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2008/08/378059.shtmlHOME |

The question may be how many people have already consumed the meat.
Last good study on Indo cats said 20% were H5N1 carriers.

The above media report is well beyond irresposible.
The above media report is well beyond irresposible. That means 7 thousand opportunities for people to possibly eat undercooked meat, not practice optimal biosecurity in food prep, and for one of those people to have regular flu - allowing H5n1 to acquire more human genetic material. That's not a threat?

The word is out that the meat is infected. So what would people in a rurual community do with that knowledge, plus an extra turkey?
Throw it to the dogs and cats.
By the way, did they ever recapture, cull, or upgrade the surveillance for H5N1 carrying cats in Indonesia?
