| | I have an ABIT KV-80 motherboard:

I recently got a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint SATA HD and have plugged it into both of the two SATA sockets, but the computer isn't recognising it in either one. The sockets are designed for RAID but I understand that they can be used to connect devices for general use.
The drive is plugged in, it receives power via a sata converter plugged into the 4pin connector on the power supply. I have tried looking at the connectors; I know the drive is receiving power because it gets hot. Both cables are brand new, as is the drive. The option to turn on SATA RAID in the BIOS does nothing as expected. iStarUSA T5F-SS SAS/SATA Hard Drive Mobile Rack | circuitREMIX:: fits in a 5.25" drive bay; - accepts 3.5" SATA I/II and SAS hard drives Solve this simple math problem and enter the result. How do I make my PC recognise the HD? I have had a look for BIOS updates, but they don't seem to contain the info necessary. I am not a computer expert, but I know a good few things based on personal experience. Incidentally, I am sure this should work since I get the feeling that I've missed something vital. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. Not sure if the drive is internal or external, but on the bios, do you have the SATA ports turned on. I know on my board, there is an option to either have them turned on or off.
Did you also plug power into the hdd? It will look like a big sideways "L". Oh and you only need to plug in one sata cable to the motherboard.
i had huge problems with the same dam drive!!
i'm onto my 3rd, which seems to be working this time. lol
if it doesn't show up at all in the bios drive list, RMA it. email the company and tell them it's DOA (dead on arrival) they will issue you will a RMA number, read there instructions on how to package and send back and label.
did you download the Hard drive recognition software and formatting tool off the samsung web site?? (sorry forgot the address) but you have to download it to format the drive, so it can be recognised when installing windows.
