using the 05-09 & 05-16 builds, i've been having problems starting xbmc.
i was getting a fatal error at line 294 or 343, which are the & lines. i was able to fix this with the 05-09 build by copying & pasting from the 04-19 build, but with the 05-16 build, after c&p'ing, xbmc locks up when i select either my music or my movies & i have to restart the xbox.
here's a copy of the music & video segments of my xml file:

also, with the 05-09 build, i could get the music & videos working, but if i tried backing out of either without stopping what's playing, i'd get access denied. i'm running w2k pro & smb shares. is this a bug, or do i have a setting wrong?
thanks,
chris
can you start it with the original, unmodified xboxmediacenter.xml file?
because if you cant, the issue isnt with the xml file.
then modify the original xml file section at a time until its up and working, do not copy/paste any old data...
this should guarantee a solid xml file..
im sorry if im suggesting things that you've already done, because i know how frustrating that can be.
did you delete the media center save under the msdashboard, or the 0face* from udata and tdata?
because ive read many times that this can freeze my videos when upgrading..
as for the original xml stopping it from starting... i dont even know where to start on that... what does the xbmc.log file saying when it won't start?
no, it doesn't start with the original xml file. it only starts after copying & pasting.
i'm not too worried about the access denied error. smb did work flawlessly on the 04-19 build.
i am stumped as to why the original xml file stopped xbmc from starting & why it freezes when i select my music or my videos.
last night when it froze, i just left it. i then shut down my computer. as it was shutting down, xbmc finally proceeded to the next screen.
i'm no network admin. any ideas?
sorry if i sounded short. i didn't mean to.
i'll try what you said this evening (i'm at work now).
i'll also post the error log.
thanks for the help,
chris
thanks for the help. i switched to 05-18 & everything's working. i might redo 05-16 so i can try to figure that one out.
now i just have to get the weather working.
