USCSI 360
This server have Apache 2.0.55 and Mysql 4.1.10a, with Ubuntu Linux. Actually we are getting problems because sometimes the database cracks and all stop working.

Thanks Eva, I will try it and say you the results.
still missing alot of info i.e. users online average and max, cookie timeout, output of question #7 mysqladmin extended-status output, any >2GB files etc
can i have your mysqladmin extended-status output BEFORE you do any steps below
but for now MySQL 4.1.10a is out dated so i'd
1. Upgrade to MySQL 4.1.15
2. Edit /etc/my.cnf and place the following mysql server settings in /etc/my.cnf and restart mysql server afterwards
[client]
port = 3306
socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
[mysqld]

3. Install APC Cache lastest version from http://pecl.php.net/package/APC. Read install guide at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=165367
4. Upgrade to vB 3.5.2 http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166391 if you're on vB 3.5.x
5. edit httpd.conf values from
Maxrequestsperchild 0
to
Maxrequestsperchild 250
restart apache
6. If still have issues try to disable these 4 options - try these later after seeing how recommendations 1 to 4 do first:
