Too bad they didn't include deleted scenes which can be seen plenty in the trailer. Also, Purple Rain used to air on German television with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio (but the German R2 DVD is also 1.85:1).
I guess the U.S. distributer was afraid lil Prince might get lost in glory scope ;)
