Rangers News:
Huge game for Rangers' promotion chances. By Sunday evening, we could be promoted or in third place with an away fixture at Hillsborough looming.
Arthur Gnohere's suspension has ended, although Marcus Bignot remains out for this one. Bircham has no ill effects from a slight concussion last weekend and is fit for selection. Rowlands and Johnson came through last week OK, so also should be fit.
Only Big Dan (they won't let me write ********tu anymore), Culkin, and Bignot can't be counted on to contribut this week.
The Opponent:
Swindon Town are currently in fourth place and have pretty much locked up a play-off spot, as they're five points ahead of seventh place Port Vale. One points puts them in. Mathmatically, they're still alive for automatic promotion, as two Swindon wins would put them at 78 points -- it would take two losses by Rangers and no more than one point from Bristol City in the final two matches for them to achieve that.
Swindon won five in a row in February and early March. Since then, they're 3-3-4 and are coming off a home loss to Oldham last weekend. They have two 3-0 wins in their last two away matches, against Wycombe and Luton.
Their manager is sounding pretty upbeat about their chances here: http://www.swindontownfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/AndyKingDetail/0,,10341~520011,00.html
This Season:
Back on 22 November, the teams drew 1-1 at Swindon. Martin Rowlands' 79th minute goal equalized for Rangers.
http://www.qpr.premiumtv.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10373~22752,00.html
The Series:
Rangers lead 39-23-35.
The teams drew this season at Swindon; each won at home last year; Rangers won both in 01/02.
The Referee:
Chris Foy gets the assignment. He's worked 22 matches this year, including 8 in the Premiership, 9 in Division One, and 3 in Division Two -- three of his last four in the Premiership including Charlton/Birmingham, Tottenham/Man City, and Southampton/Tottenham. He's given out 65 yellows and 4 reds in his 22 matches. His last QPR match was a 0-0 home draw against Brentford in April '02.
The Promotion Chase:
Bristol City travels to Barnsley for a match on Sunday. If Rangers win on Saturday and Bristol City fails to win on Sunday, we're up. If Rangers fail to win tomorrow, Bristol City can pass us with a win on Sunday.
didnt Plymouth already win promotion???? so whats all the comotion???
hey hes a poet and he didnt even kn...nevermind.
Goal, Rangers! Martin Rowlands in the 2nd minute!
Holloway has sent out the same XI as last week: Camp; Padula, Rose, Carlisle, Edghill; Rowlands, Bircham, Johnson, Ainsworth; Gallen, Forbes.
QPR 1-0 Swindon Town
17:30
I'll make sure to give a shout for the US based R's that can't be with us tomorrow. Watch for me on Sky Sports News - I might have to jump on the pitch if we get a late winner ;)
Thanks, Kev. Hopefully it won't be a late winner, though! Let's hold and expand on this lead, R's!
So, it's a huge match tomorrow with Bristol City at Barnsley. Commentary is available on QPR World.
If Bristol City loses tomorrow: Rangers are playing Division One football next season.
If Bristol City draws tomorrow: Rangers are playing Division One football next season (assuming we won't lose by 15 goals or more at Wednesday!).
If Bristol City wins tomorrow: the race goes to the final weekend -- QPR at Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City at home vs. Blackpool.
Since we'd only have a 1-point lead in that case, a Bristol City win in the final game would require a QPR win at Hillsborough for Rangers to go up. If Bristol City draws, a Rangers draw or loss would send us up, assuming again that the loss isn't by 15 goals. If Bristol City loses, we're up.
K well we're all huge Barnsley fans for a day aren't we?
C'mon you Reds!
18,396 at Loftus Road.
We're underway in the second half. R's attacking toward the Loft.
No changes.

Thanks for the info!
Barnsley's keeper, Gavin Ward, is new on loan from Coventry, with one of Barnsley's keepers injured in the recent game against QPR and their youngster on England U-19 duty. He's well experienced, with 333 first-team League appearances. Didn't get the impression he was much at fault on the goal, though.

Still Barnsley 0-1 Bristol City, approaching the half.
Good job doing the legwork calculations for us, Atouk. The pressure is definitely on City now.
Seems like Queens Park Rangers will be facing some major off-field upheavals during close season with new investors; management and ownership power struggles; a probable new rugby club permanently installed at LR; and of course those continuing and towering financial problems that beset the club, including the frightening mortgage repayment structure on the ground itself (I assume that's what Kevin was referring to, and as he said, far better to face all this stuff from the platform of Division One status).
With all that, the problems facing the club are still daunting, but at least it provides a glimmer of realistic hope for survival and ultimate growth to where QPR once were, and should be.
Great to hear the racket from the QPR fans in the background as BBC Radio London did their final report from Loftus Rd after the Swindon victory.
I wonder how many Rangers nutters will actually go up to Barnsley to support The Tykes tomorrow? What about a beamback to LR?
Whatever the outcome on Sunday, Sheffield Wednesday will be a massive event for 7,500 travelling Hoops. Anyone going to that?
Sat., May 1st, 2004 - Great day for the Rs!

Lost the previous message, as Big Soccer decided to log me off while I was posting: Mooney on for Igoe for Swindon; Rowlands got a yellow for a harsh tackle in stopping a Swindon counter.
Now:
QPR 1-0 Swindon Town
87:00
Yellow card for Swindon's Howard for dissent after Rangers were awarded a goal kick.
Swindon just beat the offside trap, but Gino cleared it out for a corner before they could get the ball to the streaking forward.
Rangers cleared and then took it down the other end, but Rowlands' header (not enough pace) and Ainsworth's shot (through three players) couldn't hit the target.
QPR 1-0 Swindon Town

QPR 1-0 Swindon Town

Rangers now have a 4-point lead and a +14 goal difference lead on Bristol City, who have a game in hand.
If Bristol City earns 6 points in their two matches, Rangers must beat Sheffield Wednesday next week.
If Bristol City earns 4 points in their two, Rangers must not lose to Sheffield Wednesday by 10+ goals.
If Bristol City earns less than 4 points in their two, Rangers go up automatically.
If Bristol City draws tomorrow: Rangers are playing Division One football next season (assuming we won't lose by 15 goals or more at Wednesday!).
After today's result at Kenilworth Road, I don't think you have to worry about that!
b.
Crap. Barnsley 0-1 Bristol City -- 23 minutes or so in.
I'll make sure to give a shout for the US based R's that can't be with us tomorrow. Watch for me on Sky Sports News - I might have to jump on the pitch if we get a late winner ;)

Substitution for Swindon Town in the 31st minute. Brian Howard in, Stefani Miglioranzi out. He picked up a knock seemingly from Bircham kicking him as he attemped to clear when a bunch of players were going for a ball as Rangers attemped to clear it out from in front of their box.
According to the commentary, Swindon had "taken the initiative" for a bit. But, an Ainsworth header nearly went into the goal, but was deflected by a defender's leg. And now Rangers have had possession in Swindon's half for a few minutes.
QPR 1-0 Swindon Town

Quite a day at Loftus Road - one I won't soon forget. I could make up a match report stressing the strengths and weaknesses of all our players, but honestly, this result was all determination from Rangers and not all that pretty. But who cares!!
I cannot believe we won 1-0. After the early goal, later in the half, at half-time and throughout the second half - I was sure we would need a 2nd goal to seal the points. It's amazing to me that we held off a good side and earned a fantastic win - what a great result.
If I'm singling anyone out for praise - they'd have to be Matty Rose (terrific!!), Lee Camp and Birch. It was really, really great to see how badly the players wanted it today - every single one of them. No subs needed for us - that pretty much sums up the effort from the 11 players in hoops today. What can I say, I'm very happy with the result. Wish all the BigSoccer guys could have seen it as well. Now lets hope we do the business next week. I have a feeling that Brizzle will get something from the match tomorrow. A draw would suit me fine, cause that would just set up an amazing coronation in Sheffield next week in front of 8,000 plus (!!!) Rangers supporters at Hillsborough.
I hope you guys were able to hear some of the atmosphere today - it was astounding. As the players did a lap of honor after the match, the only thing running through my head were Olly's famous words last spring..."This is a proper football club". Too ********ing right!
UUURRRRRRRRR'sss
Whatever the outcome on Sunday, Sheffield Wednesday will be a massive event for 7,500 travelling Hoops. Anyone going to that?
I'll be there - can't wait!!
