Does the Navy still practice frocking of officers? If you know the answer, you will know what I am talking about; if you don't, then you probably won't know the answer. I know it was practiced through the VietNam War, but I'd like to know if it is still done?
no longer authorized. you don't put it on until the day you start getting paid for it.
oh and BTW..it's been Canx'd for enlisted too. can't put it on until you have been to the Leadership school. That's a fairly new reg. within the last six months or so.
Well, I do know that they still frock the enlisted, so they may actually frock officers as well. I don't see why they wouldn't. However
--The officer must have already been approved to be appointed to that grade through the consent of the Senate
--The officer must be serving in or have received orders to serve in that new position for which the new grade was authorised.
The point of frocking is to allow the officer or NCO to demand the protocols of the new grade. For example: if an officer is promoted and assigned to be the head of a flight school, upon arriving at the school he may wear his new rank and call himself that new rank even if he isnâ ™t officially that rank until some date in the near future.
All chief petty officers become chief petty officers on Sept 16th. That's another example because the CPO may be approved for the promotion but it may take place on some other day in the year.
Frocking never effects pay, but does officially effect seniority.
Gavin has clearly the best answer; however for purposes of promotion seniority is based on PEBD: pay entry base date, the day the pay increase takes effect, not the date of the frocking.
Yes. They do. If you are on the promotion list and the billet you are filling is of the higher grade, you are "frocked" and allowed to put on the identification devices of the higher rank. But, you don't start drawing the pay of that higher rank until you are actually promoted.
Frocking lasted well after Vietnam. I was frocked in the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1979.
To the people that are saying frocking is being cancelled - NOT TRUE!!!
My cousin is a Navy CAPT at the Pentagon, and he was just frocked. They will especially do it in joint or multinational commands where the seniority demands the level of a certain grade. IT S STILL A PRACTICE!!! Report Abuse
