I always wondered about that too. I guess they must have access to some of our information, perhaps asking doctors what the average weight of their patients are or something. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through to see who is fat and who isn't. But then maybe they base their numbers on the sale of diet aids sold. (prescription and over the counter). Well, that doesn't explain how they know that 4 out of 5 men will have prostate problems or 4 out of 5 women will have bone problems. Which 4???..
I think that you only have to walk down the street to realise that the majority of the people you see are overweight.
But yeah, they have some access to health records. I would say that GPs provide information for trials and studies on the health of the population.
