Can you help me determine the cause of this (incessant) crash of my XP
operating system? Below is the error code that's being generated.
Microsoft's website offers no help, indicating only that it's an
"error caused by a device driver." I have all the most recent updates
for XP, and for my computer (a Dell Latitude D800).
BCCode : 4e BCP1 : 00000002 BCP2 : 0003C1FD BCP3 : 0003FFAD
BCP4 : 00004200 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0 Product : 768_1
From the information you first gave:
====================================
BCCode : 4e BCP1 : 00000002 BCP2 : 0003C1FD BCP3 : 0003FFAD
BCP4 : 00004200
====================================
BBCode : 4e = The STOP Error Code, in this case is 4e
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. This indicates that the memory management Page File
Number list is corrupted.
The next codes are parameters that relate to the STOP code. Using
these 4 paramters and a Kernel Debugger one could process the
memory.dmp file and determine where the issue lies.
It can be caused by corrupt physical RAM, or by drivers passing bad
memory descriptor lists. In my experience it has always been
bad/mismatched RAM.

Can you give us a better description of the crash, such when it
happens and more details about the error message?
Assuming that your computer hasn't booted into windows since the
crash, try the following to roll back your settings:
=============================================================
-Start your computer.
-When you see the "Please select the operating system to start"
message, press the F8 key.
-When the Windows Advanced Options menu is displayed, use the arrow
keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent
settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
=========================
This will roll back your configuration to the last time it successfully started.
Thanks for your help.
This is a long-time problem; nothing new has been added for quite a
while. And as I've said, I'm very conscientious about making sure I
have all the latest drivers both for the OS and for my hardware.
What I'm really looking for is someone who can interpret the error
code, which I imagine reveals the particular offending driver. Hi, Livioflores --
There's really not any rhyme or reason to it. All the sudden, the
machine will seize (I can be doing lots of different things). I
sometimes get a blue screen with an IRQL error. Sometimes I don't.
Either way, I get the error message I've already provided.
Thanks for your help.
Did the error started after you upgraded any program? Did it started
after you added another component? Check first if any of the attached
system components (RAM, video, sound, lan, modem card, etc.) is
failing or loose.
