How do i restore a "vbulletin.sql" backup file to the mysql database.

What commands do i use etc. Is there a way of doing it through vbulletin ?

    Help!

  • found out my sever doesn't use telnet or ssh because of security. Now what are my options?

  • Thanks a million, but what am I connecting telnet to?

also the reason for me wanting to do it myself is, I will soon be messing with vb trying out different things and I want to reastore it easily. I mean I may not know what I'm doing 100% but I'm a script kiddie and with the hacks spelled out as they are it's easy I believe with some hard work to get the results you need.
  • iTunes Backup::
I am looking for a software solution for backing up and restoring my iTunes music I haven't used this myself (my backups are done through my network),

  • Amasov I would first like to say, your smart, and you know your field/craft/hobby. Secondly I'm not following what your saying, but if i need to telnet what software/app should I use?

  • So if I'm trying to install hacks to my forum and i mess up, how can I fix it? I installed this auto email welcome thing and it does not work how would i remove it or other hacks I install wrong like it?

  • First of all you have to ask your provider for the login-data (Username/Password) of the telnet access (i.e. ssh-terminalprogramm).
Hard drive with NTDS Logs crashed.::
Sep 10, 2004 There is no need to restore domain data from a backup, as the data will replicate from the other domain controllers in your domain.

Need information on a Computer Error Message::
If you delete something wrong, you can always double click on the backup file on your desktop to restore your registry back to normal.

    HOME

Then, if you're using Windows there is a telnet (look into your Windows root directory) included.

If not then you have to look for a client (just a little small terminal programm).

If you're having that kind of access, you can use the commands "mysqldump" (for backup) and "mysql" (for restoring your backup).

Make sure that you're having your backup (i.e. mydump.sql) on your webspace and the restoring command is as follows:
    w32 worm removal tool::
GEN "Windows Millennium Edition (ME) and Windows XP have a feature known as System Restore, which creates backups of certain files in the _Restore folder.

    HOME

    mysql -hdatabase.host.com -Pport -pyourpassword databasename

But believe me, the fastest way to restore a backup is to ask your provider....

    Chris.

    do this

    1. backup your forum via phpmyadmin or via the admin panel's inbuilt database (make sure you back up all tables)
    2. install you hacks
    3. if problems, ask you web host to restore the backup you just did

if you have enough web space, you can ask you web host to restore the backup in a new different name database i.e. vbdatabase2 check that it works, then delete the original messed up with hack one vbdatabase1

  • Just ask your provider to do so.

They may do a backup and a restore. It's simple and you should be helped, otherwise change your provider.

    Chris.

  • I need more info on this matter, I am currently using phpMyAdmin 2.2.0rc4 and cannot figure out how to restore a backup forum. I have read over the section posted above many times and basically need a walkthough. I'm a newbie with php and mysql so be gentle. Thanks:D

  • I think via phpMyAdmin you could be in serious trouble if your hosting server has a timeout.

The best opportunity to restore a backup is to use a ssh-client (or telnet) and use the mysql commands.

If you do not have the opportunity to access your webspace with that option, the fastest way is to ask your Webspaceprovider to restore the backup on the database-server.

    Regards,
    Chris.

  • Try this one:

    Chris.

  • you're going to connect to your webspace. It's as simple as a connection via ftp but without the "www" . (really simply explained ... :D )

    For example:

A connection via ftp is like this : "www.mydomain.com"

A connection via telnet is like this :"mydomain.com"

(They're just using different ports, that's all)

Remember. Scripts will be altered in the file *.php .Templates and styles will be saved into the database. ;) -- So, if you are altering the php-files and upgrading onto a new version, these files are gone. They will NOT be saved into the database.

    Regards,
    Chris.
