Hmm Mr mike cash im not sure about what you THINK you know but actually many of the people in england dont cling to the queen but actually want rid of her and her sponging family. As your an american i can understand how many of you dont like anyone saying negative things about your country but next time try to understand that the Normal people of the UK dislike the queen but the people in power I.E tony blair and his crew keep her there because Americans visit our country to see our history which unfortunity envolves the queen and her places, something america doesnt have.
Sorry to go off topic but if im honest you havnt even contributed to this Thread Mike just critizised someone from Kuwait and England. If im honest the FBI, for the record are NOT like the samurai for one, samurai were ruled by their days sense of Honour for one and for two the CIA are more like the descriptions given. Peace
Thanks Dutchbaka (feel like im insulting you ^-^)
Im sure mike wont be back now that hes said his peice but take it from someone who doesnt chant his own version of blame canada but studied Tourism at college and the main reason Americans visit the Uk is to visit buckingham palace....where the queen lives. A little more info if Mr Gaijinpunch can remember is when Australia had to vote to see if they wanted to keep the queen as their head of state and to my suprise they voted YES. however a news paper here did a mock vote in the UK and if i remember rightly a good 80something% voted NO. Which backs that the majority dont want the queen. proof that we dont cling to the monarchy.
Which paper, not the Guardian by any chance, a republican paper. Or any owned by the republican, Australian, Rupert Murdoch? I doubt if any of them would really reflect the attitude in the UK. most polls I have seen reflect about a 50/50 split. In truth most people do not really care. The UK tried republicanism once and we didn't like it, or rather parliment didn't like it. Cromwell had far more powers than any monarch and parliment offered him the crown because they knew it would limit his powers. Cromwell refused.
The British monarch may be more a figure head, but there are certain powers she does have and by having them keeps them out of politics and the politicians. For example the armed forces swear alligence to the Royal Family, not to the Prime minister. In effect the queen can remove the forces from Iraq and the Prime minister can't do much about it. She can, if needed, dissolve parliment, something the prime minister must ask her to do when a general election is called. If a prime minister ever became a power hungry dicator, he/she wouldn't have any teeth because the army isn't his/hers and he/she can be removed from office.
but blaming America for perpetuating the British monarchy takes the cake.
It's not just Americans, but that IS why the monarchy is still there. Have you ever been to see the changing of the guard... on a plain old Tuesday, at that? Thousands of people. Think they're going to piss that away to please a few thousand football hooligans?
I have seen America blamed for everything in the world, but blaming America for perpetuating the British monarchy takes the cake.
You gents may have the remainder of this thread.
Haha no i dont read the boring papers either.
But if we are honest the queen is only here for traditional purposes and clearly out of touch with the modern Brit. (reason why harry is so liked...hes NORMAL)
And its unlikly but if push came to shove who do you think the people would back in a cival war? I dont think it would be the queen. i think its good that not all of the power is at the hands of the politicians but ive always wondered why we still pay the queen a sum out of our taxes? Its not like she needs the money. IMO shes on the biggest welfare in the country yet looks down on others. I dont consider opening art galleries and smiling with that fake grin out of her bullet proof car worth millions every year dispite the fact that her estates earn her money anyway. Its common knowledge that having her around earns us alot of money in tourism less then we pay her actually lol but due to the multipier effect the economy benefits. Or thats what we are told anyway.
Nothing to do with Japan, so moved to the chit chat section.
