When I get new music, I rip the cd via EAC to FLAC...clean up the tags with Tag & Rename (Album Artist for compilations by golly!) - and then move the files from the computer to a NAS device.
And these are the next steps I follow --
First, I hook everything back up, fire up XBMC, change to "file mode" from "library mode" and "scan all to database." I'm running a July T3CH XBMC build. Next, I switch to "library mode" and "clean" the database.
Last, I "update the database" in library mode.
I usually execute all these steps twice...multi path sources...and ~1,110 cds...the second scan and update seems to run much smoother.
All, seems to work well...but, I was wondering if I was perhaps under or over killing the process.
Call me curious..

I think "update library" should do it. But JM would know best I guess.
Update looks at your 'Sources' screen.
What ever folders ou have available in your Source screen is what will be scanned!

That's all I do. Go to library mode and choose update library from the context menu. No need to make it harder than that.

How does Update Library decide what to scan? I think with the Video section it scans all my bookmarks that I've set content on but in the Music section you don't have to set any content on the bookmarks. Does the update just scan all of the bookmarks you have?
