Posts from the Serie A Italy Category at Soccer FanHouse:: Oct 19, 2008 He will be available to Carlo Ancelotti for Serie A and the Uefa Cup. The move would seem to run from January until May when Serie A http://soccer.fanhouse.com/category/serie-a-italy/HOME | the small clubs don't want to play without a tv contract, and they need the time to make a third pay-tv platform operational,so they can directly produce and manage their league matches... and sell them to the fans.
it's 11 clubs threatening to pull out if their financial demands are not met by either Stream or Tele +,and they have the support of Roma
considering the pay-tvs are offering them 1/10 of what the big clubs are getting,i think their fight against the cartel is legitimate
i hope for a last minute settlement because September is the best period of the year to go to the stadium... :(
bump. what's the latest on this nightmare?
How is this going to work? Sept 15 they are playing the matches already scheduled for that date (inter-torino, bologna-roma, brescia-piacenza, como-empoli, juve-atalanta, lazio-chievo, modena-milan,perugia-reggina, udinese-parma)
So what happens to the previous first week? (empoli-inter, atalanta-modena, milan-udinese, etc etc.) Where do they make up the lost week? (Sept 8 there was nothing scheduled due to Azzurri match).

The Italian league authorities will decide on Tuesday whether to postpone the start of the Serie A season due to the lack of a television agreement between the clubs and broadcasters.
I've lived here for six years, and to be 100% honest, I've never even heard of 90th Minute. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist nor that it isnt popular. But if 90th minute gets 6.5 million then Goleada must get almost the same.
On the few match days when Fiorentina was playing ungodly far from Franchi like in Udine, Bari, Salerno ecc or here at hone i'd go to one of a few bar's here in town with the Stream or D+ packages, pay my 25.000 lire "coperto" watch the match, then stay for Goleada.
As far as watching the matches in the morning in the states, I've caught a few of them myself while back in CA for Thankgiving or whatnot, but intl. rights I'm sure are handled by RAI, not sure what's been mentioned as far as that goes.
Now that I'm intrigued, I flipped on RAI and Televideo and it says that the rights are for the cyrpted rights, (D+, StreaM) and it also gives a list of all the teams with and without contracts.
RAI is stating they wont go over 45M Euro to the league. MediaSet (Channels 4,5 & 6..owned by none other than my favorite, Cecchi Gori) has said they have an offer in place if this deal falls through.

Unless a deal is reached in the next 14 days, fans risk missing out on the popular Sunday evening soccer show "90 Minutes", which has a reported average viewing audience of 6.5m, making it by far the most popular sports show on Italian television.
Nooooooooooooooooooo! :(
I've heard this as well.
The thing is, that no matches are on RAI. You either go to the stadium, or you pay for the D+ or Stream packages. From what I understand, Half of the squads have contracts with either of those 2 for their home fixtures, and as you can imagine, the Milano and Roma squads as well as Juve have huge differences than that of Parma and Bologna, while the bottom teams have no contract at all. Serie A: The Classification rated by Salaries - - The Offside :: Jan 2, 2009 CalcioMercato posted a great article (short and sweet) that rated how much each team was paying in s. http://juventus.theoffside.com/competitions/scudetto/serie-a-the-classification-rated-by-salaries.htmlHOME |
There are 2 shows in the evenings on Sunday after the matches that show the highlights, and the one that almost everyone watches is called Goleada, and that isn't on RAI either.
I just can't imagine them complaining about rights for RAI, which shows the second most popular highlight show. There most be something more to it than this. That, or it's just Italy as usual :P
I was just reading this on the RAI site. Bummer.
I'm not sure where you're getting those facts.
'90m Minuto' has an estimated 6.5 million viewing audience which easily makes it the country's most-watched sports show. These are from reports I've read from Italy.
Here, the only thing I get is a Serie A match in the morning, 90th Minute, and highlights on other shows. If it turns out RAI doesn't get the rights (which looks like it's going to happen) I'll be seeing very little if any Italian football.
Juventuz.com (http://www.juventuz.com/)More TV chaos in Italy
Italian state broadcasters RAI are threatening to end their coverage of Italian football unless a reasonable price can be reached over rights.
RAI have been covering the Italian scene for nearly 50 years but as of yet can’t agree a price with the Italian League for the highlights package for the Serie A and B campaigns.
"RAI is not prepared to bleed itself dry in order to save football clubs that are suffocating in debt," director general Agostino Sacca told the ‘Corriere della Sera’ on Monday.
The League want close to £60m from RAI – the same price as what was paid last season. However, the broadcasters say that they will not pay more than £30m.
This latest TV argument comes in the midst of the distinct possibility that the new season will not kick off on September 1 as scheduled.
There are still eight Serie A clubs who have yet to agree pay-per-view TV deals and they want the season postponed until negotiations are complete.
Meanwhile, it emerged on Monday that the Serie B season could also be put back. A total of 14 out of the 20 clubs in the Second Division don’t have TV contracts.
A final decision is expected to be made on Tuesday when the crucial League meeting takes place.
I'm not doubting Goleada is a popular program in Italy, I know it is.
But just because the bar is packed while showing it doesn't mean more people watch it than 90m.
I do get Italian news from RAI every evening on a PBS so hopefully they'll have more on this.
*You weren't at Florentia's opening match by any chance were you? And I'm just curious why you moved out there. I'd love to move to Italy and have been looking into it. Thanks

"The season can't start if negotiations for television rights are not completed," Perugia's president Luciano Gaucci told the Radiocapital station on Friday.

treeitaliano, sounds like you've been living in Granducato di Toscana rather than Italy...
Goleada WAS the second in line to show serie A highlights on sunday evening, after 90° minuto; the reason it seems so successful to you is that it was on the network owned by Cecchi Gori (Telemontecarlo, oddly),so i guess all tv sets in Florence were tuned to that station...
this also means Mediaset (channel 4,5 & 6 as you call it) is NOT owned by Cecchi Gori as you suggest, but rather by his archrival and ultimate nemesis Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (ever heard about him? ;) )
to clear facts: RAI is negotiating the first-sight (i don't know the proper word) tv rights, the ones that justify the existence of 90° minuto; highlights available later at night are negotiated separately, and both Mediaset and RAI have access to them (i know Mediaset do have those for next season)
there's no offer from Mediaset to have those first-sight rights, probably because they're not lucrative even at 50 millions and because the composition of RAI management who's refusing to offer more has been "suggested" by the government lead by the owner of Mediaset: a suspect of favouring his own group would be obvious,if indeed Mediaset made a bigger offer and RAI didn't counter it...
finally: with the new schedule all 90° minuto could offer would be the highlights of 5 matches: the value has objectively decreased.
basically the clubs pretend that tax payers extinguish their debts... they can go ************ themselves, for what i care
thank God i don't pay the "canone RAI",or i'd be furious
If RAI doesn't get the domestic Italian rights, it doesn't necessarily mean RAI International won't get the international rights. RAI International shows many games abroad which do not originate on RAI. Novantesimo Minuto would be effected. La Domenica Sportiva has already announced they will be changing their format - not sure quite how, but I'm guessing less emphasis on game highlights and more on post-game interviews, analysis and features.

I wasn't meaning to say that cuz it was on at a bar that it's more popular. Just meaning that the other show isn't so head over heels more popular. I'll watch Goleada and Domenica Sportiva.

I was. The stadium is no more than 3 blocks from my apartment. I wrote a little bit about the match here.
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8451
I think it was more of a publicity thing, than a friendly. Kind of a 'Hi nce to meet you' type of match. I will be at the Coppa Italia match tomorrow nite vs. Pisa.
I moved here because my wife is from Florence. I met her while in college in 1996. Sure beats North Carolina. If you have question about leaglity issues about moving here, PM me. It's quite easy actually, the laws are pretty lax, but recently the've passed legislation to make it tougher.
