If you catch them, do you actually punish them for it? I am genuinely curious as I know so many Christians think it's wrong. So, what do you guys do if you see your 12-13 y/o doing it?

Haha....when I was a christian, I was so afraid my mom or dad was going to catch me jerking it. They almost caught me SO MANY times. LOL. They are both strict christians, however, instead of grounding me, my parents would have just told me, "Son, we are going to pray for you to not me tempted."
it's better that they experiment with self pleasure at that age than the alternative - actually having sex.... I think that after the awkwardness dies down a little bit, it would be time for 'the talk' if it hadn't happened already ((which can be considered punishment))

when i went to elementary i remember the teacher saying its okay to "explore your bodies" (which was a very awkward class) but don't have sex

It's wrong. I never conceived of self abuse until I was told about it in my 20's. If it was natural, I would have just done it from childhood.

Christians don't necessarily think its wrong, uptight pretentious people do, albeit SOME christians can be as such. It is USUALLY the lustful thoughts that accompany such an action that is the issue they have with it.

Masturbation is something many children 12-15 usually do. Mostly boys though. But obviously girls do to. I personally think there should be no punishment, maybe just a pretty serious talk about "sex". Its there hormones, and going through puberty triggers it. No need for punishment is what i think. I don't have kids but I will say this. If I have a son and catch him, I'll threaten to cut it off. If I have a girl and catch her, I'll threaten to sew it up.
This is not a religious issue... this is a human and parenting issue.
You will screw your child up beyond means you can understand... let them be and talk to them about sex and masturbation without letting it be known that you saw them. If you punish your child you will warp more things in their mind than just sex.

Punishing your children for something so natural is terrible. Making them feel guilty and embarrassed about being curious about their sexuality as they grow up can lead to emotional problems later in life. So the question is, do you want your kids to be happy and healthy?

It is a normal part of growing up. Everyone is curious about their bodies and what they are capable of and any parent who punishes their child for that is insane. Even if boys don't masturbate, most of them with ejaculate in their sleep from a wet dream. What you do if you walk in the middle of it is leave them alone and when you see them again, have the same sex parent sit down with them and explain to them what is happening to them. You might want to have an open discussion about sex.
I will show them where in the bible does it say that it is wrong and explain it to them. And tell them why its a mortal sin. No matter how much you hit your kids it will never get rid of the urge to do it. Bringing them closer to God and living by example and placing a conscience in their hearts is really the best you can do. The rest really has to be up to them to do the right thing and not wast their seed. They may not fix the problem then and there but after a while their guilt will. I guarantee it

All kids are curious it doesn't matter what religion you are. I wouldn't punish them but that is just what I think there is nothing wrong with it it is all a part of growing up.
