Sessions/Cookies aren't working for me on this board

Published by: mike 2009-01-07

  • My cookies/sessions aren't working despite my profile-settings. I have to login with every action I specify...

  • Can't find the 'clear cookie' option? Manually deleting didn't help either :(

  • Yep, did try that w/ no success...

  • Mas, I had this problem when I'd gone to the admin demo. I cleared all my cookies and it works fine now.

  • Mas, I know this may be a silly question, but are you logging in at the bottom of the main forum page? (Under all the forums, but before the footer and info?) I'm ashamed to admit it, but it took me almost 3 days of being here before I realized that the log in option was down there and the "non-saving" of what I'd read was making me NUTS.

  • I have found that if you have more than one cookie in your system they will compete with one another and screw everything up. My site was having all sorts of cookie problems when I had my banner rotator and the script saving a cookie to my cookie. When I turned the option for the banner rotator to save a cookie off then the cookies on my forum started to work again.

Every time I tell people that they need to go to their windows/cookies directory and delete any that have to do with the forum then reset their profile their cookies start to work again. Everytime there is always more than one cookie for my forum.

In Netscape I have them edit the cookies.txt file and remove all references to the forum and their cookies begin to work again too.

So I have found that you can only have one cookie on your system in either your Netscape cookie file or the windows/cookies directory or all hell breaks loose and you will not be able to retain a cookie for more than the session time you are on the forum.

  • My cookies are cleared every day no matter what I have them set at in the preferences section. If I haven't visited this forum in the last 24 hours then I have to reset my profile to save another cookie.

  • Still no clue guys? How can it be that it works at work, but not at home?

  • My cookies aren't saved at all...It's a bit unusefull to fill in you name+pwd every time :(

  • I'm never logged in, so I also can't logout :(

  • I have cleared my cookies, never been to any other area but this one and yet each day I have to log back in. The cookie that has been written to my computer is getting deleted and the time amount is variable.

    Any ideas?

  • I don't know what it is, but I was absolutely sure that I deleted all cookies. But it just came back, while I emptied my recycle bin??? But when I deleted the cookies AND rebooted it all worked fine...Strange, I think it's an M$ problem...

  • Mas*Mind:

The clear cookie option is logging out. That will clear your cookie.

Also, manually deleting it didn't work for me either.

  • It works finally, for those who wanna know how:

Manually deleted all my cookies (extended find on "vbulletin" with homesite), then restarted my computer, went to the vbulletin forums, set my preferences again et voila; I was logged in :)

  • Strangest thing is that I have no problems whatsoever at my computer at work

  • I just fixed mine the same way. I'm using IE, so I looked through the cookies in c:windowsTemporary Internet Files, and deleted 99% of them, making sure to delete any that said "vbulletin".

The funny thing is, the next time I viewed the vBulletin forums, it said "Welcome back mmoncur". So apparently there's a cookie somewhere that I missed, but it works now.
