    Hey all,

I'm on the waiting list right now for a team, and I think I still have time to decide my region. I read on some help site that if I pick a underused (or small coutnry) region, I'll get more fans and sponsorship money.

Should I do this? BrianJames is starting around the same time as me also, and I wanted us to be in the same division...is this possible or even likely?

    Thanks!!!!

  • You pick your region when you signed up. You can change it later after starting the team. Not sure how it works with the waiting list. Let me ask the GM tonight and I'll let everyone know.

    Thanks! A related question now:

I read that playing a friendly against a team from a different region )and country) gains more experience than playing a friendly against a team from the same country. Should my friend and I join different countries? I realize it will cost money each time we play, but is the experience boost worth it?

THANKS! I can't wait for my team.

  • Playing a team from the same region as you in a competitive match (not a friendly) is considered a "derby" and neither team gets home-field advantage (or both do, same difference) in terms of the midfield bonus and the increased chance of awarded penalties. It used to be the case that a derby would also increase attendance, but they dropped that due to whole series shifting into the same region to maximize attendance.

Derbies really suck for the home team in the cup, since they just lost their intended home-field advantage (which is supposed to help even things out). They're not really the best in league either if you're the weaker team, since you just lost a chance for the home field to give you the edge in your match.

I hadn't heard anything about inter-region play giving extra experience. That's either a relic of the distant past, or a muddling of the actual case of international friendlies.

For an international friendly it is widely believed that you gain more experience for those friendliesThe reason this is widely believed is because it's stated outright in the rules. :p

THANKS! I can't wait for my team.

different region, no you don't get extra exp. For an international friendly it is widely believed that you gain more experience for those friendlies, and usually get some more people to show up. If you do decide on doing an international friendly, just remember that it will cost you $6000 to make the trip over to the other country to play them in a friendly. So with that always try to get home-home against a team. And you can't join a different country, you have to join the country you are in, unless that country doesn't have a hattrick country. The GM's do watch that and you can lose your team for not being in the right country.

  • It's official. Asked GM George last night. Starting region makes no difference to how fast you get a team. You are given the next available team and it moves to the region you selected.

  • This is taken directly from the hattrick rules--which I suggest you read over and over and over and over and over again while you're waiting for your team. It helped me a lot 9 months ago when I was starting out. Short answer--regions give no benefits (other than mostly randomly generated weather differences).

Besides belonging to a country, all Hattrick clubs belong to a special region as well.

In Sweden, for example, all regions correspond to our provinces, plus a Stockholm and Gothenburg region. The point is for you to select a region you feel you belong to. Itīs probably the one you live in in real life, or then again, you may have some other reason for choosing it.

You donīt have to consider if itīs smarter to choose one region over another - all regions are, and will stay, just as good.

So what difference do the regions make, then? Their most important function will have to do with the weather, for starters. All matches held in the same region will have the same weather. Each region has itīs own weather, updated every day. At the "Region" caption you can see what the weather's like today in your region, and a weather forecast for tomorrow. As we all know, the weather forecast isnīt always entirely accurate, but they get it right quite often. The weather isnīt selected completely at random every day, itīs connected to what the weather was like the day before. If there was rain today, thereīs a greater probability for rain tomorrow as well, compared to other types of weather.

Chances are exactly the same for rain, sunshine or anything else regardless of which region you choose. No regions have better weather than others. No region is better than any other region.

Weather affects a couple things in Hattrick. The first is attendance - bad weather means less people may want to come out for the match. Also, several player specialties are affected by weather, read all about that next chapter.

The regions are also meant to be "fun", so a person belonging to one area can check out how many people from the same area are participating, how many are logged in, etc. Possibly, being the best club in your region might become a challenge, or trying to get as many players from ones own region into the national team. We believe that in time, lots of fun stuff involving the regions will turn up.
If the team want to change region (the coach might be moving?) then you have to pay 10.000 USD and 3% of your supporters will leave your team.

you get twice more experience than a national friendly, but i dont think its worth it in the beginning.

region doesn't matter at all. it used to be that if teams from the same region plays, more people came to watch, but not anymore. Now, the only difference is that neither team gets a home advantage. Region has nothing to do with the series or division you will be put into.

If you're talking about choosing a different country, it's a different question. But you should start a team of your current residence, or your application gets rejected. besides, i dont think its ethical for an american to own a team in china just to get more sponsor money.
