Hi,
I've tracked down my issues with the latest xbmc t3ch install not wanting to play avi's. The problem is with the SMB sharing... if I copy the avi file to my xbox and play it there, it works, if I browse to my computer and try to select it and play it from there... its sits on the select screen and does nothing. However I can select dvd iso's over the smb share and play them no problems... it just doesn't want to play avi's over smb.
I've tried playing with the cache size etc and it didn't make a difference. I doubt its a space issue as I have an upgrade 120gb hdd with plenty left.
Any ideas what may be causing these issues? I'm fresh out of ideas. How can I go about posting a log?
did you say it works now?
Ok I worked out the problem, if you check the box 'Allow network users to change my files' it will play avi's. SMBlog -- December 2008:: Avi Rubins blog. Bill Cheswicks diary/blog. Why it is trying to change the avi's and read mode isn't good enough is beyond me but meh all that trouble and that was the reason. Pain in the ass.
well a debug log would tell us more (hold X,Y on startup check for freememdisplay)

All of it but for that Earth 2 example in the logs... I have no idea why that doesn't work. It works though if copied to the xbox, I've also tried renaming the files to a few characters and it still doesn't work over smb.
Here is a post of the log when trying to open the avi file:

I guess the problem is here:

Question is how do I fix it?
Well I haven't really worked out the problem, it just started working all of a sudden.
I unchecked 'Allow network users to change my files' and all the directories still work.
The only thing I can think of is some of the characters ([+ etc in the path/file name.
Is there any sort of an update I can do to the xbox ftp that might help solve the problem?
