This is for a debate. I need to find as many strong arguments as
possible in favor of the statement "Staff Suggestion Schemes do not
work well in Asian organisations".
The arguments could be based on the cultural differences, perceptions
etc. For example, Employees in American / European companies may be
more receptive to Staff Suggestions Schemes than employees in Asian
companies. They are more willing to provide ideas through their
companies' Staff Suggestion Schemes. Why is this so?
I have no knowledge on the topic and I have no idea on where to start
research for the debate. Please list the arguments and provide
evidence / references. Your help is appreciated!
I worked in Seoul, and though never breached
this topic. would agree. You are on the right
track for your reasoning, spell out possible
cultural and even legal differences, then look
for information:
1) Asian cultures are more conformist and discourage
dissent more then the West.
2) Asian employees in these countries tend to be
more loyal to their employer, and hence question
their decisions less.
3) Asian cultures, some, produce a hierarchy that
does not always include the bulk of their staff in
the decision making......
Just made these up, but for each of these you need
to find facts that support it. Good luck, and my
prayers go out to all those in Seoul today. An
example of Asian culture that I always like:
Seoul English newspaper was interviewing a 20something
regarding his work habits, he worked 60 hours a
week though he did not have to. When asked why:
"For my company, my God, my family and my country."
Now we know that's not America. Pretty cool! Branding '+' for bobbie7-ga, lindstrom-ga et al:: I love all the marketing suggestions, but I noticed you also want to be .. I need the arguments for the debate soon.
What martinjay listed are some of the things which I am looking for.
These are good points but I need facts / references to support them.
Maybe the researchers do not quite get my question. I need to know why
the Staff Suggestion Scheme, which allows employees to provide any
suggestions that they feel would benefit their company, will not work
well in Asian organisations as compared to organisations in the West.
Is it because, as mentioned by martinjay, Asian cultures are more
conformist and discourage
dissent more than the West, etc. I need the answer ready in 24 hours
time. Thank you.
