Hi,
I have a table in my document and the first column is the serial no. As no of rows are more than 200 I do not want to type serial no at every row. Is there any possibllity like excel to fill the rows with series?
Also inside the table If I right click the mouse on a particular word I am not getting the Synonym and other normal menus. How to check the synonym for a word inside the table.
I am using Win.XP and Office XP.
You're welcome. Glad to be of help.
I often use Excel to do what you've described.
You can use the Excel Edit/Fill/Series command to create the range you need, and then paste the relevant cells (any part of what you've done in Excel) back into Word.
When you're ready to paste make sure your cursor is WITHIN the starting cell of the Word table, rather than highlighting the entire cell.
Dear Tushar

Click the cell in row 2 column 1. Select Table Formula... Enter the formula =MAX(ABOVE)+1. Close all dialog boxes.
You will have to copy this cell down the column. Also, Word doesn't do automatic updates. You have to select the table (or the entire document with CTRL + a) and then use F9.
The Synonyms > command in the Table Text context menu:
Normal text, when right-clicked leads to the Text context (or shortcut) menu. Text in a table leads to the Table Text menu. So, you need to add the Synonyms> command to the Table Text menu.
Unfortunately, this is easier said than done because I cannot find the Synonyms command anywhere except on the Text shortcut menu and you have to copy this item from one shortcut menu to another.
Select Tools Customize... Toolbars tab. Check the Shortcut menus checkbox. You'll get a menu with three drop down lists (Text, Table, and Draw). Position this toolbar to the right and towards the top of the screen. Click the Text drop down list, scroll down, if necessary, select the Text > submenu, then hover over the Synonyms> menu item. Press and hold CTRL while dragging that item. Drag it (and keep holding the CTRL button and the mouse down) on top of the Table dropdown list. That list will expand. Continue to drag on top of the Table Text> item. That list will expand. Continue dragging onto this shortcut menu and position the item whereever you want. *Now* let go of the mouse and the CTRL button!
Close all open dialog boxes.
An alternative method that uses some existing menu as a temporary place holder.
Select Tools Customize... Toolbars tab. Check the Shortcut menus checkbox. You'll get a menu with three drop down lists (Text, Table, and Draw). Click the Text drop down list, scroll down, if necessary, select the Text > submenu, then hover over the Synonyms> menu item. Press and hold CTRL while dragging that item to some currently visible menu (like the Standard menu). Let go off the mouse and the CTRL button. This will add the Synonyms> menu to the standard toolbar.
Now, click and drag this newly added item onto the Table Text> shortcut menu (as described above), except that now it should be done without the CTRL button.
