There are many reasons that we have for not keeping photographic records of our lives. Maybe we just don't have the time or we just keep putting it off. We all do it. If you are like me you can look back and wish you had pictures of a certain time in your children's life, or events in your life that you fondly remember. I truly regret not keeping good photographic records of my children, my wife, my pets and my friends. I guess the main reason is that I put the photos away in the attic and the next time I saw them, they were faded or blemished from humidity. Thanks a bunch for that. I know it's just due to my stupidity but try to understand, I used to operate heavy equipment, I'm really trying to learn this stuff. I guess what i really need is a good tutorial on page layout, maybe that would help.
to specifiy a table assign width and height like this
of course you have to specify column width if you need also etc.
etc
nothing works. there must be a way. I just want the table to stay the same width no matter what i type in it. i will have to find out how to do it o forget the whole thing. for some reason that does not work. the table grows with whatever text is placed in it. I would like to have some links on the left and text on the rest of the page. I see it everywhere but i haven't been able to make it happen so far. I know it is probably simple but I'm just beginning. for some reason it will work in ms word and i've tried copying and pasting into first page, but it quits working there??????
Well I would really think about doing your whole page not without MS office then, it tends to mess things up and since you don't have a doctype I'm not sure what coding style you are wanting to use. My guess is HTML transitional. In Firefox which I use, I don't see your issue yet. I see a column on the left of links and right beside it a paragraph
You must not get too frustrated. I'm sure you have read some tutorials already and not to point you to any of those.
Like I stated, you must show the code each and every time cuz I cannot see your code changes. Did you try to make two tables? What have you tried yet? You have elements in the whole layout that forces a stretch.
I would rethink your design a small bit. I can place some sample code for you for comparison if you like, but will take me a little time and on the right computer.
I would be happy to help or point you in a few directions there fosgood11....:)
We all have to start somewhere. w3c schools is a great place to start. For the most part

just to name a few....some deal withmore css than others but gives you ideas..
so you created this in MS word right? Perhaps paste your code here or provide a link so we can look at what you are trying to do...or screenshot maybe
you have one column in the same table as 80 percent and another 20 percent..since you are using two sizes basically one stretches since columns in the same table are more likely to take one large size. Perhaps make two tables so you can have different column widths.
Change the 20% and 80% to pixel values, for instance(arbitrary numbers): width="100" , width="620". Your table is set at 720, so you need to create your TD's to equal 720 in order to fix them in place. (It is the percentage values causing the stretching you are experiencing.) When you set them with fixed pixel sizes, your problem will cease, as terminator was saying. Beyond that, get off of ms word, and definitely check out the help sites terminator gave.
