tds3 update
Published by: anonym 2009-01-07
  • I too am ow getting problems with version 2 (w98se).Have done a complete reinstall (registry cleaned etc) adn on both occaisons the outpost icon is not in systemtray but running in background using 95% cpu.Two restarts seem to have fixed that part.Ive decided to start with a fresh configuration as reloading ones that i saved previously also seemed to cause problems.Applications that were allowed were still asking for rulesets to be made.New configuration seems to have sorted that part out....except for my tds3 updateer.Whenever i try to update tds3 i get this (see attachment pic) ..and then outpost will be shutdown kernel32 error.Anyone else using tds3 on w98 getting similar error?

Anybody else using TDS-3 from diamondcs.com.au ? There hasn't been an update since 12/23 there's usually one every business day.

  • heres the rules wizard pic ...

  • Thanks luvop. The problem i had with a fresh install and in rules wizard is that ,when i tried to allow update .exe a rule setting it would crash outpost. Then in the logs update.exe would be labelled system and it shows being blocked.I did get it working by installing v1 again and puttin the rules in there and then installing v2 over the top. However during the course of the day ,other applications like ICQ ,naviscope , that were in partially allowed or preset configurations suddenly behaved like the updater did and was showing being blocked in logs although the reason giving in reason column was the same reason as when they were being allowed.I will wait a while before i reinstall v2 as at the moment itbehaves to erratically on my system for some reason.

No problems here with updating TDS3. See attachment from log.

  • thank you q section.I already had them installed.V2 has been acting strangley.System was showing(under network activity) on various ports tring to establish connections continually. One of the connections was for the tds3 updater. Why update.exe is shown as system is beyond me though.Reinstalled twice and twice v2 would not let me even make a rule for tds3 updater (update.exe) without crashing outpost ,and showing "system" as being blocked.I have finally got around this by reinstalling version 1 and setting up the updater rules ..then installing over top and using v1 configuration. It now seems to be working correctly with no "system" being shown at all in network activity.Although v2 is passing all security tests i am not fully confident in its ability to intergrate seamlessly with my setup.I will continue using v2 as it seems to have settled down and see how it goes.
    thanks again q

We have 98SE and we found we really needed the two MS updates found here: http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7221
Disregard the part about problems installing OP. After we downloaded those two files (one at a time) and rebooted each time it really made a difference.

One other thing we did was to set a new Configuration and cleared the Partially trusted section and we did this by manually selecting the Applications and adding them back in. When you save the new configuration as perhaps 25MAY03.cfg make sure when you reboot that you have that cfg running by re-loading it from File>Load Configuration.

Please let us know how this goes.
