    I have a rather large phpBB2 forum and am actively looking at going to vbulletin within the next month, but my concern is the accuracy of the Import tool.
    Migrating to AbleCommerce 7::
    Nov 13, 2008 If you plan to go live immediately after importing, you may want to spend some . You can manually adjust the file names before import.

    Is there anyway for me to purchase a lic. of vbulletin and install on my development environment at home, test the import structure and verify / work through any bugs, and then go live with it at my real host?

  • You're allowed to have on test installation as long as it's not publicly accessible.

  • Nope.

  • Sweet, thanks for all the help Colin.

    Expect my order in the next day or so.

  • Is there anything special I will have to do upon / duringn installation to make it possible to switch live later?

  • So then all I need to do is purchase the software and I am safe to install at home to test and when ready just re-install on my real webhost?

    I just wasn't sure about the key validation of vbulletin and what not. I just do not want to end up having to buy two licenses since my dev. environment is not public facing.

  • Yes, that's easily possible.
    ImpEx also doesn't change any data in the phpBB database at all, so you can also set up vBulletin/ImpEx in a different directory on your web server and import from the live forum once or twice until you feel comfortable, and then close the phpBB forum and do the actual import.
