Hi there,
I get a dialog box with "The handle is invalid." message when I press some buttons or menu items. The menu items are: Tools->Agnitum Update, Tools->Outpost Log Viewer, Tools->Test My PC Online, Help->Outpost Firewall on the Web->any item. And the buttons are: Show Log Preset(any item) and Show Detailed Log.
I upgraded my Outpost Firewall Pro to V2 in the same directory. Now its version is 2.0.225.2919 (281). Windows 2000 Pro SP3. Urgent! Is there a way to make Outpost to work normally?
I have the same file handle error constantly. I can close the firewall and open it again and the message goes away, but that looses all my detection and other info. It just seems to happen after the computer has been on for awhile without rebooting. It is getting very old. It did it after the upgrade so I blew it away and did a fresh install, still the same error.
Anyone??
I get the same message when trying to view a log file
after I installed Kaspersky Anti Virus, I wonder if the op_data.dll
rename is a safe (temporarly) solution to this, if so I'll use it.
I think it has something to do with the order of how things are
started, I beleivenow the KAV is starting sooner then OF. KBAlertz.com: Error message when you use Outlook Web Access in :: Error message when you use Outlook Web Access in Exchange 2000 Server: The remote procedure call failed or The handle is invalid. http://kbalertz.com/926085/Error-message-Outlook-Access-Exchange-remote-procedure-handle.aspxHOME |
The problem is solved by ending en restarting OF but I don't like
this solution,... I didn't have any trouble with OF and NAV2003...
Also, how can one change the startup orderin the registry??
Anyone knows this?
Greetings 2U ALL
And I wouldn't like to give OF up because I like it and it's a good product but then KAV is too ;-) so I really would like to use the 2 of them together! Ow I use XP pro ...

I got the famous "Handle is invalid" this morning. Monitor had gone to sleep and when I tried to run manual update, I got the comment. What I did, was just shut down OP, restart and everything was fine. OP-Pro V2 registered.
I only once have got the message "Handle is Invalid".a restart of OP sorted it. I got it on clicking the Log button.
Never seen it twice.
OP2, clean install. WinXp.
I've found it, after sniffing around in services and so, i saw luserver still around, this is a remainder of Norton 2003 I beleive (wich I deinstalled yesterday before installing Kaspersky KAV)
and after using Symantecs RNAV.xxx utility and rebooting all is ok,
I don't get this error anymore and can go on and read my logs ;-)
So I'm very glad I've found it and I am very satisfied with Outpost,
maybe improvement on logquantity ...
And I would like to thank all those on this forum here because the same problems I saw here made me think and look in the right places!!!
Good luck to you all!!
i get that error mesage as well
i have a clean install of Outpost on Win 2k SP3
Hi Michael,
You wrote you performed an upgrade to OP V2. I'm not sure what is causing the error messages on your system, but in case of an upgrade I'm always suspicious. Prefer clean installs myself, much more reliable. I suggest you save your configuration, deinstall OP completely (including deleting all OP direcories and registry keys), reboot, and do a fresh install.

I got the same, same OS/SP as you, clean install of OP v2 Pro. So far, from what I can see, it has something to do with what files are loaded on startup (and maybe otherwise) and in what order. I was trying out as sharware program called DU-Meter when it happened, and it seems if DU-Meter loads before Outpost - then I get the invalid handle message. If DU-Meter loads after Outpost, then not.
Maybe someone can explain what "handle" means in this case, like if it is "file handle" allocated by the OS (I don't know - I am no programmer) and if this is a simple conflict relating to two programs trying to use the same handle?
