I've had teeth pulled also. It is not a fun experience. But I will tell you that it does get better by the 5th day. At around the 7th day you begin to no feel it anymore. By the 10th day all the pain is gone. So, If its already been 3 days I would say that you've already had the worst. Good Luck!
its going to take a while to heel
maybe take some medicine, then get a drink of water.now just try to keep ur mind off of pain and anything to do with teeth and keep ur mind busy watching tv or going to the movies. healing takes more than 3 days... so you will have a "hole" for awhile. The feeling you are sensing simply may be part of your gums on the inside... they aren't nice and smooth after you pull teeth out. It is less likely food b/c it would have to have been really jammed in there to not break off in pieces or come out completely. The gauze was used for direct pressure to help stop the bleeding. You may get a little bleeding as the tissue where your teeth used to be get moved around. Cleaning out the hole may cause you to bleed a little... and that is okay.
Here is what you do....
For the "food", brush your teeth gently in that area and swish your mouth vigorously with fresh water... that will loosen and remove particles... even really stuck ones. If you start to get bleeding, you can always put some gauze back in that area and bite down on it to put pressure on it. This will slow the bleeding and allow it to naturally clot. leave the gauze there for 5-10 minutes or until the bleeding stops.
For the pain, Motrin ever couple of hours will help with the swelling and pain; rub Anbesol on the sore areas to numb them up will also help with the pain; ice packs on your jaw for twenty minutes at a time every hour will also help with the pain.
And see or call your dentist on Monday morning for additional suggestions or a prescription for pain medicine.

If you have severe pain even after 3 days then it can be dry socket. for that you have see your dentist but it takes time for extraction socket to heal. To keep it clean you can do warm saline rinses for 3-4 times a day and for pain you can take pain killer and it will take care of your pain. for more information on tooth extraction you can read the following detailed article from a very informative website

Leave your mouth alone... thats the best you can do right now. Rinse gently with some water. You'll be fine, call your dentist when you can
I understand your concern... I have gotten about10 baby teeth taken out by a dentist, and 4 permanent teeth taken out. Anyways, yes you should, SHOULD take out the food that are stuck in the gap. If you don't it would get infected after a while. What I did, was that I took a toothbrush, and brushed the area where there was food and tried to get it out like that. It worked for me. By the way, until your gums heal, you should eat soft food, that would help the gums heal faster... I believe. I hope I have been of your help. Good luck!
You need to rinse your mouth out with warm water. This should help get all of the food out of the holes. You should have lesser pain now than you did on the first day. The gauze should only be left in for a short while to help with the initial bleeding. Quit poking your tongue around, the dried blood is what forms a scab, and keeps the dry sockets from forming. Do not suck on anything, as sucking will remove the scabs that should be forming.
If you feel up to it, you could even brush your teeth, just avoid the holes!
You should call your dentist first thing tommorrow and tell them that you are still in pain, it does sound like you may have a dry socket.
There really is no long term effects of the dry socket, it may even heal on its own, however the pain is intense (I know) and the dentist will be able to pack the hole with somesort of pain reliever.
I've already had some teeth taken out, though the most was two at a time. Check the "food" in the mirror. Sometimes it's just pus or soft scab and you can't take that out because the wounds would open again. When I had mine removed, she made me take out the cotton that same afternoon. She pulled it out in the morning.
Suggestions:
1. Eat ice cream, the cold lets the wound close faster.
2. Try to eat nutritious food, it may be difficult but it speeds up healing. Chew carefully though.
3. Brush gently and when you gargle, swish the water around your mouth softly, without much force, so as not to rip the wounds open again.
I would suggest taking some Tylenol or other medication. Also take a mirror and look at the hole to see if food is in them. And last make a solution of salt and water and swish it around your mouth.
Hope this helps.
