Supportive parents & a creative environment.
The nightly book reading before bedtime is a big help. Surround your home with good books and they'll make it a habit to read.
Interaction (with adults and other children) and an open-minded and loving upbringing
I wouldn't narrow it down to two... But if I had to I would say a Stimulation and Love/Attention. Children's brains respond and grow from stimulation through different environments and objects. Taking them out to parks, museums, zoo's etc. A child cannot successfully function without love support and attention from a caregiver. Children deprived of a caregiver often have low IQ's and tend to perform worse then those who grow up with the love and attention needed.
There are multiple things that contribute to this. I would say for myself, my parents always taught me the importance of morals and self-respect which they go hand in hand. Also , I was allowed to be creative and encouraged to be. Children nowadays, at least in our culture, are sat in front of the 'idiot box' for tooo long. They need CRAYONS, and LINCOLN LOGS, they need to make forts, and write stories. Play instruments, artwork, cooking, etc. Anything to stimulate their brain and encourage their hearts.
Stimulation and love.
