Is it just when you turn 18? After a divorce? An epiphany? I'm doing an opinion paper on what really crosses someone over the line of being a teenager and becoming an adult. I need some opinions from other people to get some background for this paper.

Maturity comes with age they say. But I don't really believe this. For a while now, I've strongly believed age really doesn't matter. It's all about life experience.

I attend highschool. I'm 17 and in my final year. I budget my money carefully, I respect people older then me, I avoid fights, all around I am a decent person. I've also seen a lot of bad things in my life. It was the traumatic experiences in my life that caused me to mature, and essentually, miss most of childhood. It's unfortunate, but it has made me an adult. I feel this way, and everyone who knows and understands me also feels this way about me.

At the same time, I know people my age and older, who can't hold a job, who get in trouble with the law, abuse drugs, and do all kinds of bad things to themselves, and others.

It's these things that have led me to the conclusion that there is no specific age of maturity. I believe it all has to do with the life you've led thus far, and the opinions, principles, beliefs, values, and most importantly the personality you've developed as a result of your past experiences.

Some of us mature faster then others, and some not at all. It may be an epiphany, or a divorce as you said, but it could be many other things to. It just depends on your own life.

It depends on how you feel at a certain time in your life.

I believe it is when you turn age 21. I live in New York and that is the age when you are an adult. 18 is still a teenager, so it is definitely 21.
