Which version of *Nix do you recomend for a server running on a PII 500Mhz with 512MB RAM(I know it isn't perfect, but only 1 or 2 websites will be run off of it)?
I am considering either Red Hat, SuSE, Debian, or FreeBSD.

I personally use RedHat 7.1.
I was a bit reluctant to use Linux at first coming from a FreeBSD background but after using this OS, I can say the performance is very good and administration very easy especially when installing applications for the server. Linux System Administration Portal::

RH 7.1 here too. The RPM's and RedHat's installer make it the easiest distro for beginners to configure properly.
