I was raised Catholic and never worshipped Mary but was accused of it by Born Agains. I accepted Jesus as my saviour and worship God through Christ and have done as he asks. So am I still going to Hell for just being Catholic?
Because they are ignorant to the Catholic doctrine. Might as well say Jews worship David and his star.

To the person who says "she's Mexican and her culture worships mary"
I'm Catholic and Mexican, & NO WE DON't. We pray to saints, Mary etc, but NOT WORSHIP, don't confuse that. Lookin at a statue and praying, etc is not worshipping, if your wife says it is, she has the wrong concept.
It is because too many denominations just tell lies about the Catholic Church, either on purpose or because they don't know better.
Nexst you have groups like chick publications that have a mission in life to destroy the catholic church
no. we pray to mary the mother of jesus. these born agains are just trying to confuse you. how the heck would they know what catholics worship. quote the bible. when moses came down with the 10 commandments he said you shall only worship one god. the born agains dont know what they are talking about.
Well I don't think it matters whether or not you are Catholic. Only through Jesus do we enter heaven, and you clearly stated tht you accepted Him as your Savior, so don't worry about it. I have a few friends who are catholic and some do pray to Mary, which is not in scripture anywhere. So I do believe it is wrong to do so. But if you don't do that, just don't worry about it. God bless you!

Born again Christian fundamentalists (TrueChirstians™) demonize everyone who doesn't share their particular ideas. Catholics used to do that, but they have come to their senses and now they're one of the most tolerant groups.
No you wont go to hell for worshiping God through Jesus. But IF and ONLY IF you bow knee to any of the Idols of Mary, Joseph or whoever - or if you pray (speak to them asking them to talk to Jesus for you) Then you're in deep trouble.
Non of the dead can act as mediator - because Jesus is the sole mediator between God and mankind.
If you partake of the Eucharist the way Roman Catholics do is a no no. The wafer is not actually the flesh of Christ and the wine is not actually blood. They are to be taken with the understanding they are symbolic of Jesus flesh and blood.
Wine to represents the Holy Spirit - as Jesus came by flesh he also came by spirit - the Holy Spirit. The main thing is you take Bible doctrine over any religion's doctrine.
There are so many wrong aspects with the Roman Catholic system I could not possibly cover them all here - so I refer you to the one place you cant go wrong; The Bible. » Joel Osteen Again Falls Short of Christian Orthodoxy | Denny Burk:: Dec 23, 2007 (i’m roman catholic actually). and i’ve had issues with the church and also with born agains for years — but… i’ve taken to Joel Osteen. http://www.dennyburk.com/?p=1035HOME |
May God Bless you, keep you and guide you.
all you brainless zombies are going to hell, you just don't stand a chance. you argue among yourselves, and you don't even know your own doctorine. your a catholic, don't you know if you are going to hell? ask fr_chuck for some absolution it'll be alright then and you won't burn in them sulfer pits OK?
im catholic, too, but i do believe and pray to the blessed mother mary. when i was growing up, my mother always told me that mary, much like a mother to her children, would always be my lawyer and mediator and intecessor, would always look out for the best interest of her children. there is that saying, "to jesus, through mary". In a humurous sense, she's kind of like my back door. as much as jesus loves his mother, how can he say no to her if she pleads my case? the holy rosary is dedicated to the blessed mother. there are several novenas that pay homage and tribut to her.
dont worry about hell. you live a good life, keep his commandments, do good. we are going to be judged on how well we live our lives.
God bless you and may you find peace in your heart.
I know that you "venerate" and not worship Mary. Mary is the blessed mother of our Lord, and deserves our highest esteem. If that is your intent, great! I have known some who "cross the line" and worship Mary (and, by the way, most Protestants feel prayer is a form of worship).
No, I don't think anyone is going to hell for respecting/honoring the mother of our Lord! As long as you trust in Christ you will be saved.
the people that teach other religions are bogus are bogus dont let a closed mind be a stumbling block if you are saved you are saved the church doesnt force you to do any worship of idols so let those people go their own way ive known many many people that are catholic and they claim the blood of christ just as we do and are saved dont let an odd person disrupt the flow of spirituality in your life just pray for them and go on
please re-examine your question:
Why do Born Agains think...
THEY DON'T
Who says Born-Agains don't know what they're talking about???
I was raised as a Roman Catholic, before someone showed me Christ's words:
"No man can come to the Father - BUT through ME!"
Even the Apostle Paul, in the New Testament says, clearly:
"We have been given NO OTHER mediator under Heaven, BUT - Jesus Christ."
The teaching that we need mediators between us and Christ is found *nowhere* in the Bible, but is "derived" from a very few scriptures that are used in a diverse manner by the Catholic Church, to uphold traditions long held onto, from Ephesian goddess worship, where the deity there was blasphemously crowned "Queen of Heaven".
Is it by coincidence that Mary has been given exactly the same title, when they tried to supercede the Ephesian pagan practice .. not to mention such titles as "Co-Redeemer" and more.
We have ONE Redeemer, and ONE Redeemer only. Jesus! (Rev.18:4+5)
because it gives them something to attack.
"Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners..." Doesn't this sound like worship to you? Mary is a human; there is nothing holy about her. To regard her as holy definitely implies something. Also, asking Mary to pray for sinners implies that Mary can forgive sins. To say such a thing is to elevate Mary to the status of Jesus, who is the only one who can forgive sins. Establishing Mary as coredemptor of sins is even worse. Why do Catholics even pray to Mary, anyway? She was a human; she is either in Heaven or Hell like all other humans. Just because she bore Jesus doesn't make her divine.
That's the thing. It may not look like worship but, when you examine everything--the prayer TO Mary instead of to Jesus himself, establishing Mary as coredemptor of sins when the Bible does not say this, the Catholic Church making Mary queen of Heaven--you can see the idolatry within the Catholic Church.
I'm a recovering catholic. During my childhood I've said the hail Mary prayer thousands of times. When you say a hail Mary prayer who do you think your worshiping? Groucho Marx???? Anyways, if there is a god, I don't think he's an insecure egomaniac so I wouldn't worry about hell. (unless you're me)
I was Catholic, and my wife currently is. My church didn't worship Mary so much but my wife along with much of the Mexican culture worships Mary well beyond Christ. Never did understand why.
The idea that we Catholics worship Mary is one of the biggest misconceptions some people have about our faith.
Whenever I am told this, I usually say two things:
First, in the high point of Catholic worship -- the Mass -- Mary is hardly even mentioned, and never in a way that can be construed as worship. This would not be the case if we really worshipped Mary.
Second, the highest form of devotion to Mary -- the rosary -- is not required of Catholics. If we truly did worship her, it probably would be required.
We honor and venerate Mary -- would Jesus want us to do less for His mother? -- but we don't worship her. Unfortunately, "born agains" often confuse honor and veneration with worship.
