Seriosuly it bugs me. im a Catholic and people seem to think we are idol worshippers that bow down to saints and statues.
But we dont, we ask them to pray for us, not the same as praying to them...
we dont worship Mary, we ask her to basically talk to God for us.
fellow catholics, am i right?
Because that is what they are told in their church that obviously regularly bears false witness against their neighbors. I believe I completely owe this answer to Misty, she had a great quote about this last week. Stay strong and true.
oh yeah and yes, you are right.
You are 100% correct. Many noncatholics believe the worst because they don't know any better, are misinformed, and don't care to educate themselves about Catholicism. And those who actively go around bashing Catholics and spreading falsehoods will have to answer for the sins of bearing false witness and harmful pride. Talk:Christianity/Archive 21 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:: Catholics believe in the virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, and spouse of the Holy Spirit. many people look at the many God-like creatures that Christians worship, its http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Christianity/Archive_21HOME | Protestantism - Catholic Encyclopedia:: to offer his prayers through the medium of the Virgin Mary and the saints. draw devotion from it only as fetish worshippers draw it from their idol, viz. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12495a.htmHOME |
That's a protestant thing, not atheist. Talk to your fellow Christians. The demonize you to destroy you. I think every baptist I ever met thinks that catholic are closer to the devil than god.
Well considering the first and second commandment forbid this anyway.. yeah.. you are right.
Asking them to pray for you is just as bad as praying to them. They are dead. They can't hear you.
Prayers should only go to God. God is the only one who can forgive sins. One should only go through Christ to get to God. CRN.Info and Analysis Blog Archive This Is How It Is *Updated:: instead of recognizing that so many ministers and teachers may SAY The Lord has I just dont understand why people think we can read the Bible and not use the http://christianresearchnetwork.info/2008/07/15/this-is-how-it-isHOME |
The dead whether they are saints or not can't help you in prayers.
Even Mary figured out the need to have Christ as her saviour.
To put Mary on that level is going against the first two commandments.
BUT I can't say anything. My Church has done the same thing.
there is nothing wrong with asking saints to pray for you. My Grandma is a saint too. The more obedient you are to GOD the closer you probably are, I would assume that is the reasoning behind having exemplary people pray for you.
although it is probably a waste of time because we can communicate directly w/GOD and is wasting time a sin? probably
Melanie, people gather a perspective from outside of the church and make a judgement based on misunderstanding. it seems to be a human failing, because as americans we do the same towards other cultures.
what is worse is that rather than try to learn more, we continue to build arguments and defenses that further alienate or denigrate others.
another thing i find odd is that so many "born again christians", of which i am, believe that the catholic church is a cult that broke away from christianity instead of the oldest form of christianity that all other faiths broke away from. it is an enigma.
too few bible reading christians fail to pick up on Paul's reference to pray with those who have fallen asleep. they think that reference is towards back seat baptists instead of venerated souls that have died.
PEOPLE NEED TO READ THE BIBLE AND STUDY OTHER FAITHS DOCTRINES BEFORE MAKING JUDGEMENTS, LEST YE ALSO BE JUDGE!
sorry about yelling....
It all stems from ignorance and is fertilized by dedication to ignorance.
I don't get upset when they don't know better, but when they do know better and chose to bear false wittiness against us anyway, I feel sad for them.
I mean that is one of the 10 commandments.
Peace be with you, and Pray for them.
Yes you are right!! I have answered this myself as well Our Fellow Catholics a thousand times, it's Intercession NOT worship and We Catholics Worship God!
Yes you are right! We DO NOT Worship Idols & Saints!!! Other religions have been preaching this long before I was born and I'm old enough to remember Jesus when he was just a boy...just kidding. My Mother is a convert from the Penticostal church and she was taught that as a child. She is now Catholic and understands that asking a Saint or Mary to pray along side of you is not worshipping them. The Bible says where two or more are gathered ... Well, if you are alone is asking someone deceased to join you in prayer some kind of worship? I say NO!!!
stupidity and refusal to look into the religion and understand it
Yes, you are correct.
Might I add that they also claim we speak to the dead, when John 3:16 clearly states that they are in everlasting life.
What else would you expect from bigoted stupid uniformed cultist protestants,,
Martin Luther wrote the veneration of Mary is inscribed in the very depths of the human heart
September 1522.
One of the oldest catacombs contains a drawing of the Madonna and child dating back to the second century
And the oldest know request to Mary. The Sub Tunm Paresidum dates back to at least 300 AD, It reads
We fly to your patronage oh Holy Theotokosz despise not our petition in our necessities but deliver us always from all dangers o ever glorious and blessed Virgin 300 AD
why do you ask Mary to talk to God for you? is'n't that job for Jesus to take care of?
I know you don't worship her or any of the saints. But I grew up Catholic, and I have seen many people kneel in front of statues, or stand in front of statues praying, lighting candles, or saying the rosary. Many believe that just having a picture or statue of a saint in their home will bring them favorible situations/luck (for lack of a better word).
Perhaps it is that behavior that people get the idea of idolitry.
It's a distinction without much of a difference.
Mary and the saints are immortal, blessed beings who reside in Heaven and talk directly to God? Sounds like a subsidiary god by any reasonable anthropological definition. It's only the desire to remain formally "monotheistic" that requires you to explicity specify that they're not gods.
The Bible says there is ONE mediator between God and man
