Why is my dog doin this?
Published by: anonym 2008-11-26

  • Ok one of my male pit bulls is starting to be ruff when breeding!e turned two and me and my friends were gonna breed dj and my friend pit bull fawn>Dj was doing his thing but got really ruff.So we put fawn on a chain and put a muzzle on dj but why is he being ruff??

  • You should have your male neutered because his personality is changing and he is becoming aggressive. He is not a good candidate to breed. If you breed him, you will risk passing this aggressive gene on to the puppies.

We just rescued a Rottweiler puppy from a kill shelter in Pensacola Florida. They will not adopt out Rotties or Pitts. They automatically euthanize them unless they have a rescue willing to take them. They killed 150 Pitts in September 2008. That was last month. Please don't breed your dog. If someone wants a Pitt puppy, let them get it from a rescue. With your dog's temperament and his increasing aggressiveness, he should be neutered as soon as possible - he should have been neutered before he turned one year old. It is safer for him as it prevents him from getting several kinds of cancer, and it is safer for your family too.

My husband and I live next door to a couple who leave their dog outside in . do this is teach him to come to you on command, and reward him for doing so.

  • I have to agree with the above posters. Dog breeding is not something that just "Happens" nowadays...unless you live in a shanty town in the depths of india, where that kind of thing is just everyday fun.

Anyways, back to point, breeding is something that takes years of research and there is no point breeding a dog of inferior bloodlines, as the pups will just end up being run of the mill throwaways that deserve better. I am sure your dog is lovely and perhaps from a reputable source but just saying "oh i'm going to breed my dog today" is not something anyone here would advise I am sure.

For instance, Dogs should be from good bloodlines, have good pedigrees, preferably KC registered, hip and eye scored, vaccinated and had full health checks before you even think of looking into breeding and for the most part a breeder is always looking to improve the breed, not just breed because its fun or to make some money.

If the other pit bull is being rough with your little girl then that is a trait that you do not want passed on to your pups as much as you may love your dog, you need to think of this objectively.

Also dog breeding can be tricky, I do not know what your situation is and if you are still set on breeding your two dogs, no one here can stop you, but I can at least suggest that you join a web forum and talk with other breeders, try and get some information and contacts going, even contact breeders in your area and ask for advice or if you can watch a mating to gain some knowledge aside from reading up as much as you can.

"Those kids annoy my dog, causing it to bark .." etc. etc. However, as the questioner appears genuine and in need, I chose to respond quickly.

But please bear in mind that your dog can get hurt if proper care is not taken so please take care for her sake and her studs sake.

    Good luck.

  • ... because he is a 2 year old in tact male Pit Bull who is coming into full maturity and is being driven by trying to breed a female.

Let's put it this way: your male Pit Bull is not going to suddenly become any more gentle. As his aggressiveness becomes self rewarding (and it is), the behavior is going to escalate as time moves on. Is this a trait that you really want to pass along to puppies especially when the breed already has a horrible reputation? I love Pit Bulls and think they can be wonderful family dogs, but any Pit Bull with any aggressive or forceful tendencies should not be bred.

In addition, what you are doing could actually hurt the female. Are you willing to risk her health and safety?

I would normally suggest that someone practice AI (artificial insemination) because there IS risk with natural matings, but in this case I think the genes from your male should not be passed on and it's as simple as that.

Good luck and I hope you seriously rethink what you're doing here.

  • Why are you trying to breed your dog? You do know that there are over a 100,000 "pit bull" puppies just sitting there waiting to be killed because no one wants them. If you love your dog why on earth would you want to add to this problem?
Send your friends and people to the Rescue Groups that struggle to take care of all the puppies you and your friends bring into this world.

  • Well, you guys obviously shouldn't breed since you don't know how to do it.

    At all.

    So don't do it.

    At all.

  • Sorry, but I have to agree with everyone else - if your friends want a dog so badly they should be adopting from the local shelters - no point in adding to the problem. Personally I would stop breeding him get him fixed and then start to work on his aggressive behaviors - it's better for you and for him.

  • Because he's into rough sex.

  • That's like if your mother got pregnant with you even though she knew you were going to be put to sleep. I know you don't want to hear it, but tell your friends to go to the pound.

  • Honestly.....Please Don't brong anymore pitbulls. Tho the breed can be very sweet. I have worked in a shelter for MS SPAN ( Mississippi spay and neuter and you wouldn't belive the number of pitbulls on death row. BECAUSE ALOT of shelters do not adopt out pits. Its sad but true. I saw a healthy litter of pitbull puppies be put down because that breed is illegal in the county the shelter was in. PIT BULLS ARE OVER BRED! PLEASE DON"T BREED THEM Oh and also. You asked in another question why people think you fight your dogs. Well because MOST PIT breeders DO sell the pups to fighters. Can you honestly say you know where every puppy you have sold has gone??? You can't and thats why I saw litters of pit pups being put down. because they over over bred and end up in places like that!!!

  • Not to sound mean but it doesn't sound like you've done your research when it comes to breeding. Why you would want to breed a dog that is a mixed breed anyway is beyond me but to answer your question this is not about breeding it's about asserting dominance. Dogs will establish a social order in many forms but mainly through what we have come to call humping. People make jokes about male dogs being gay when they do it or about how a dog will hump their friends. This is in no way sexual in nature it is simple creating a "rank structure" and nothing more.

  • Your questions get more asinine as the night goes on.
