Whether I use "Split" or "New Window," I get 2 windows that contain the same document. On ancient version, I could get a blank document in the 2nd window and transfer into it choice parts from orig. doc. This particular program (part of M'soft Office XP Professional) was manufactured especially for Dell and I am using it on an HP. Only problem so far has been that keyboard will not switch to Spanish language.

  • There are two ways to do this.

    1. Open both files in separate Word windows and tile the desktop (or move and resize the two windows by hand) so they're both visible. Cutting and pasting between them will operate as usual.

    2. Switch from Single Document Interface (SDI) mode to Multiple (MDI). This isn't an obvious trick and has a slight side effect. To do this:

    1. Click the Tools->Options menu item.
    2. Click the View tab.
    3. Uncheck the Windows on Taskbar checkbox.
    4. Click OK.

    Two things will now happen:

    1. You'll see only a single entry on the Taskbar for all your Word windows, no matter how many of them you have.

    2. All your Word documents will be in the same window. If you click Window->Arrange All, they'll appear next to each other. They'll also appear simultaneously if you click the overlapping windows icon that now appears in the upper-right corner of the workarea, next to the Type a question for help text box.

    Hope that helps.
