How do I have my Windows XP (HOME ED.) start my DSL connection when I
click on a shortcut icon?
Is your DSL router on?, In that case the DSL connection is already
enabled, could you explain in more detail what you want to do?
Regards.
I want to start the DSL connect routine when I click on a shortcut
icon that has properties of: (for example) http://www.excite.com or
any other internet address like that and have the DSL connect item
come on before the computer goes to the internet. I remember doing
this with a dial-up connection when I ran Windows98 but I can't find
the way to do it in WindowsXP. The way it is now, I must go to
connect then DSL then the connect program comes up and I connect to
the ISP's server then I can click on icons that are shortcuts to
places like the example above.
Do you connect to the Internet through a special program that your ISP gives you?
Hi there,
Here's what you need to do. Open up a window of Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options. Click the
connections tab, select the connection that you're using and change it
to Always Dial My Default Connection.
The first few pictures under the "How to edit advanced settings"
section of http://www.southcom.com.au/helpdesk/winxp.html show how to
do this.
That should fix your problem, but if there's no connection in the list
and you connect through a program that your ISP gives you here's what
you can do.
First, click Start, Settings, Network Connections, and then click New
Connection Wizard.
On the first screen just click Next.
On the second click Connect to the Internet, and then hit next.
Click Set up my connection manually, then next.
Connect using a broadband connection that requires a name and
password.
Type the name of your ISP and click next
On the next screen fill in your ISP username and password and click
next
Finally, hit finish to create the connection.
Try connecting now, if it doesn't work try repeating the step at the
top with the new connection.
Hope that helps! If not, please feel free to ask for clarification.
