According to the XBMC online manual it should work. I use twonkymedia to serve a number of clients from a Kurobox (a linux NAS) running twonkymedia. These pick up the server almost instantly. XBMC cannot find the unpnp server even after specifiying the IP address of the Kurobox. i gave up using twonkyvision / twonkymedia as i too could not get the xbox to detect the upnp server, i had to revert back to windows media connect 2 which the only problem ive had so far is lack of support for remote thumbs.
Ive now gone back to smb
Hi all,
is there any progress in this ?
I am running Twonky 4.2 RC3 now and I still cannot pick it up automatically with XBMC.
My Upnp Server is a Buffalo Linkstation and that works fine when I access it from my German Tuxbox Neutrino Upnp Browser.
Is there an debug option somehow to assist you Dev's in looking into this issue ? That sounds cool that you guys now can actullay test the product..
I know about the xml file as I was doing this all the time but I would love to get Upnp working ;-)
I played around with that a while ago via Nero Media Server to feed my German Dbox (sat/cable box running linux) and it worked OK for music.
I will update you if it is twonky only Issue or the same with Nero
OK,
I just tested with my 01.02.2007 XBMC Build pre-2.1
MPlayer dev-cvs-070107 3.4.2
I can detect my Twonky Media Version 4.2 Beta 6 running on Windows Xp and both my Media Player 11 Instances running on my PC and my Laptop.
I cannot detect Twonky Media Version 4.2 RC3 or any previous Versions
I cannot detect NeroMediaHome 2.1.11.0
NeroMediaHome can even see the Xbox XBMC (calls it Platinum/0.3.6) but it does not show up in the Upnp Device list within XBMC
Any hint what I would look for ?
I have wireshark installed and could do a trace for you guys

I've requested it too as a beta tester for twonkymedia.
Having said that, XBMC works well via samba shares on my Kurobox and so I would expect it to work on a linkstation via samba too if you add these to your sources.xml file.
Does XBMC automatically detect the conten on TVersity or do you have to add it manually

Thanks - I've PM'd you re this. Christian Gran from Twonkyvision will give you a licenced version.
Hi,
I can take a look at it. Can you point me to where I can download a version 4 or something that won't expire after 30 minutes?

Does TVersity run on my Buffalo Linkstation 2 Mips ....?
Why not try TVersity?
Unfortunately like I said no support for Nero Media Home and only support for twonky on WindowsXP and not other native Linux Boxes (Buffalo Linkstation Mirps)
Hmmm it's still not working for me...using 4.2 Beta of Twonky Media
No...!
Yeah anything new on that topic ? I'm Beta Tester of the upcoming Version 4 of TwonkyMedia and I can confirm that it doesn't work in Ver 4 either.
Can I activate a Log in XBMC to debug the whole thing?
Hi,
I searched tho forum already and also the manual/wiki, but I did not succeed in setting up UPnP.
I'm running the xbmc 2.0.0 and as UPnP servers I tried
- MS Media Server
- Philips
- TVersity
All deliver fine output to the other UPnP (hardware-)clients I am running in other rooms of my house.
The only one that showed up in XBMC is the MS Media Server but it does not show any files at all. When clicking on the menu entry it freezes for a minute and noting happens.
UPnP support is activated in the networks settings.
Thanks for any hint.
Frank
Any news on Twonky/Upnp on the XBMC ..?
I posted a request here:

Now that's what I call damn good stuff..
Making stuff compatible is brilliant... it's a shame plonkers like Microshaft don't do it. It takes court orders to get MS to give info out to let developers know how to get their software to work with stuff like Windows.
I'm not sure, if I've understood your question correct?!?
XBMC gives you directly access to all content on TVersity. You could say, that TVersity takes over the media database work.
Ok, I got a license from the guys at TwonkyVision and was able to test out TwonkyMedia v4 with XBMC and it worked totally fine so I don't understand why you guys have this problem.
Are you able to see other upnp servers at all like Windows Media Connect?

c0diq,
Appreciate if you could share the steps you did to set it up.
Btw, I'm using TwonkyMedia 4.1 running on Synology DS-106e. I believe I have Xbox 1.3 or 1.4 and have hw modded it, running evox as dashboard.
Thank you very much in advance.
I've tested TVersity (http://www.tversity.com), which is another UPnP server, and it works with XBMC.
Maui said he was a beta tester for v4 and it was not working for him.
Maui, are you using the latest and greatest from TwonkyVision?
4.0 is not out officially...
I only have the latest 3.1 and there it does not work

I tried it last night both with CVS 13.08.06 and 28.08.06 and it fails both times.
I set the Upnp client to autodetect and when I go into my Videos and choose Upnp I only get the .. and nothing else.
I will try the MicrosoftMedia Software
Sorry guys,
just noticed that there is the new 4.0 out and upgraded my old Version. Done this remotely so will need to try when I get home.
